Osborn MetroPark’s newest playground feature sounds good to children and local officials alike.

Erie MetroParks officials recently obtained a $1,500 Dorn Foundation grant to purchase handicap-accessible play equipment at the popular venue off East Perkins Avenue.

• WHAT: New handicap-accessible playground equipment at Osborn MetroPark
• WHERE: 3910 E. Perkins Ave., Huron Township
• WHEN: The park is open daily, from dawn to dusk year-round

Children can now mash up beats by scraping and tapping on a new xylophone-like music machine, dubbed the Melody Maker Panel.

By late November, other apparatuses, including handicap accessible swings, will be installed in the playground area near the Frost Center.

Park officials said they’re ecstatic about providing more opportunities for children to play.

“Adding this playground equipment fits directly into our mission by providing opportunities for the citizens of Erie County and other visitors to use and enjoy the Erie MetroParks in a sustainable manner,” said Beki Catri, the district’s marketing and volunteer coordinator.
