Women: We would have paid for denture cream

Two Sandusky women accused of stealing denture cream from a local store Monday said they were unfairly charged.

Betty Church, 71, 1300 block Franklin St., and her daughter, Ellen Spring, 52, 1300 block Ashburn Drive, were both charged with theft.

“The woman didn’t give us time to take it to the counter to pay. She just grabbed it and said you stole this — we’re going to get you,” Church said.

A store manager called Sandusky police at about 3 p.m. for a shoplifting complaint at Dollar General on Cleveland Road, according to a Sandusky police report. The manager allegedly caught Church and Spring concealing Fixodent and Polygrip denture creams and cleaners in their purse.

An officer arrived and charged both with theft. The store manager banned the two from the property, the report said.

yea right

law says untill they leave the store..store manager jumped the gun

well it's kind of funny they were concealing it but they might just get off on a technicality. I mean I can understand stealing if you're starving to death, but to clean your false teeth? come on.

The manager probably had an inkling of their past - they're not exactly "new" at it:

That might be true, but what's also true is that there is in fact a law that states that it's not 'stealing' until you leave the store. If he knew their criminal history, then it was a good idea to watch them, but he should've waited until they opened the door to leave before he called the police. They weren't going to go very far considering their ages.

@ WeThePeople1965 - "They weren't going to far considering their ages"...... I'm 52. I run 4 miles everyday ... I rather resent your comment. If 1965 = your birth year.... You're only 4 years younger than the person you thought was TOO old "go very far".

Everyone is fam...

Holy crap! The Golden Girls sure have a record!

huronguy

last time I checked Dollar General has grocery carts and baskets you can put your items in. In all the years I've been dragged out to go shopping with the wife she has never put items in her purse. I believe these women were out to steal.
Only time I ever put items in my pocket is when I'm at a home improvement store and the items are to small to put in the cart, if I put them in the cart they would just fall through the cart onto the floor. ( nuts, bolts, sprinker parts ect ect )

They usually have small bags at the shelf for those items. You seem to be lucky enough to have very understanding hardware clerks who know you.
