Do you want the good news, or the better news?
Home sales in the Firelands Association of Realtors area, Erie County and nearby counties, rose slightly in November — from 151 in November 2009 to 153 in November.
That's decent news in itself as the housing market continues to struggle to find its footing. Statewide, home sales fell 28.3 percent last month, compared to November 2009.
In fact, except for the Firelands Association of Realtors area, home sales fell in every area tracked by the Ohio Association of Realtors. In the Cleveland area, for example, they plunged 29.7 percent.
But the better news is that in the Firelands area — Erie, Huron, Ottawa, Seneca and Sandusky counties — the dollar volume for home sales soared 25.2 percent, from about $16.7 million in November 2009 to about $20.9 million last month.
That was fueled by a 23.6 percent jump in the average sales price — from $110,538 to $136,615.
