Sandusky fire received $45,000 from FEMA's Assistance Firefighters Grant, which will help the department purchase equipment for emergencies, personal protection, training and vehicles.
U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown announced the award this week. The grant aims to help fire departments and emergency medical services that aren't affiliated with hospitals. It enhances the agencies' ability to preserve health and safety for the public and first responders, Brown said.
"Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect Ohioans every day," Brown said. "These funds ensure that Ohio firefighters have the resources they need to perform their jobs safely."
The firefighting grant will award about $390 million to fire and EMS organizations this fiscal year.
