Sandusky leaders on Friday kicked off an internal investigation of a city worker who allegedly stole fuel from a street department depot.
Sandusky police Detective John Orzech interviewed Greg Stookey, the alleged thief, for about an hour Friday morning.
Orzech said he’ll conduct more interviews Monday and Tuesday and conclude the investigation by Wednesday.
On Thanksgiving Eve, Stookey’s supervisor found Stookey in the street department garage, apparently filling his truck with diesel from the city’s fuel supply, city officials said.
Because of the serious nature of the allegations, Icsman asked interim police Chief Jim Lang to help the city with its internal investigation.
“I want an experienced investigator,” Icsman said. “We want to do this right.”
In Sandusky Municipal Court on Monday, Stookey pleaded not guilty to theft.
