Officials at Amtrak, the national railway company, say better service is coming down the track for people who live in Sandusky.
That seems to be good news, because Sandusky's trains are among the worst-performing routes in the entire system.
Sandusky is served by two trains.
The Capitol Limited, which connects Chicago to Washington, D.C., picks up westbound passengers in Sandusky at 4:02 a.m. Sandusky passengers board eastbound trains at 12:40 a.m.
The Lake Shore Limited, which runs from Chicago to Boston and New York, stops in Sandusky at 4:55 a.m. westbound and 4:12 a.m. eastbound.
Amtrak, using a formula that includes scores for customer satisfaction, on-time performance and cost recovery, has attempted to rank all of its 300 trains.
The Capitol Limited, on time only 33 percent of the time, ranks as one of Amtrak's five worst trains. Amtrak carried out a performance improvement plan for each of the five, including one for the Capitol Limited that's just been released. Five trains which rank only slightly better -- including the Lake Shore Limited -- will get performance improvement plans next year.
