Legal and financial problems may have led to two people to execute a suicide pact Tuesday at a Venice Road motel, Sandusky police said.
Terry L. Nickolls, 57, of Barberton, was found dead of a possible drug overdose Tuesday evening in a room at the Coronado Motel.
Also in Nickolls’ motel room was Lorain resident Sonya Petty, 48, who was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center. Petty was in fair condition Wednesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
It appears Nickolls and Petty both attempted suicide by using over-the counter-medications, Sandusky police Det. Dave West said.
The two had been having financial and legal problems in Southern Ohio, which may have led to the suicide pact, West said.
After ingesting the medications, the couple apparently changed their minds and called a relative for help. The relative then called the motel, whose owners called for an ambulance.
