It still feels like beach and theme-park weather outside, but children will head back inside next week as many local schools resume classes.
Summer has drawn to a close for Berlin-Milan Schools students, who start school Monday. Clyde-Green Springs Schools, which has construction projects to finish up, will be the last to resume Sept. 7.
Retailers welcome the start of school. Planned spending on clothes and supplies for back-to-school bounced back after declining last year, according to the National Retail Federation. The average American family will spend $606.40 on clothes, shoes, supplies and electronics, up from $548.72 last year and $594.24 in 2008.
