Thumbs UP to the Rev. Greg Dziak of the Church of Truth Ministries for airing a basic truth -- that a little helps a lot when people don't have much. In particular, the Portage Township minister noted a $10 donation will feed a family in earthquake-ravaged Haiti "for quite a while." Puts our comparatively affluent problems into perspective.
Thumbs UP to the volunteers who turned out to care for the horses rescued from the Oak Harbor farm. Some are a little ruffled by what the Arabian horse rescue people said, and maybe some of those feelings are justified, but we'll say it looks like all the humans involved in the rescue -- Arabian aficionados and just plain animal lovers alike -- had the horses' best interests at heart. If both sides (if indeed there are sides) admit to that, then good has come of a sad situation.
Thumbs UP to Judge Paul Lux and the people at Erie County Court in Milan for modernizing records keeping -- at least for future cases in that court. Lux acknowledges the staffing and money aren't there to digitize past court records, but at least computerizing the cases from now on will be an improvement. We can also hope this move will help avoid the records mess that may be beyond repair in the County Clerks of Courts office.
Thumbs DOWN to the continuing disconnect between what's left of the Erie County Developmental Disabilities Board and the public and clientele it's supposed to serve. Cutting short a meeting at which residents wanted to air grievances and ask questions because one of the board members had an appointment? Please.
