Over recent days, both Erie and Lorain county deputies received numerous theft complaints, but it wasn’t until one proactive property owner caught both men on a surveillance camera that officials were able to develop a concrete lead.

The footage, recorded Sunday at a storage building in the 300 block of Ohio 113 W., in Milan Township, shows two white men in their 20s forcing their way through a door and perusing the room for valuables.

And anyone with information can call the Erie County Sheriff’s Office’s detective bureau at 419-627-7553

One suspect had short, dark hair and wore a blue T-shirt and long pants. In the video he is seen spotting the camera and alerting his partner to its location. He addresses the second man, with brown short hair, a lime green T-shirt and khaki shorts, as “Carl,” according to deputies.    That same day, a Vermilion Township resident in the 15200 block of Darrow Road, saw a brownhaired man wearing the same outfit as “Carl,” skulking along a nearby treeline, deputies said. When the resident noticed him, the man darted behind houses and ran into the woods.

Two other burglaries—one on Saturday, in the 15400 block of Darrow Road, and one on   Monday, in the 15200 block of Garfield Road near Wakeman — could be the work of the same suspects, deputies said.    Residents also identified a blue, four-door vehicle possibly associated with the crimes.
