I read with interest the recent Register article on speeding.
I certainly agree; Erie County does have quite a number of speeders. What the article said about the turnpike was right. The speed limit may say 65, but most people are doing about 80. It amazes me how people are in such a hurry to get around you, and then either turn or get off the road.
People seem to think that if you have a fancy vehicle, you can do whatever speed you want. Also, I've seen people yakking on cell phones, eating or doing whatever while driving.
About a year ago, my wife and I went to visit a friend of hers southwest of Columbus. As we were on I-71, people were flying around us. I kicked it up to 75 mph and people were still flying around us in a big hurry. I quickly brought it back down to the speed limit. Lately, you can't travel down a two-lane road without some idiot in a hurry tailgating you, trying to get around you. Tailgating seems to be getting just as bad as speeding. For some reason, there are some who love to tailgate.
If the idiots on the road would use their brains and stay at the speed limit, the roads would be safer and the Highway Patrol's job would be easier. Plus, you won't have to worry about getting a ticket.
