Monroeville Schools has publicly released its new superintendent’s contract, a one-year deal aiming to bridge a gap as school board members seek a permanent leader.

Gregg Elchert, the district’s new leader, will net $85,000 for his year’s work, which begins Aug. 1.

Board members hired Elchert on July 8, less than a day after learning their top choice for the superintendent spot backed out because of a family emergency. Elchert retired as superintendent of Clyde-Green Springs Schools in December.

Elchert’s pay rate is identical to what the permanent superintendent would have received when his three-year contract began on the same date.

Elchert’s standard contract includes a clause stating it is “strongly preferred” the superintendent live in the district. Elchert retired in Clyde and said this past week he has no plans to move into the district at this time.

Board members will likely begin searching for a permanent superintendent after Jan. 1, board president Nancy Brown said.

Elchert’s contract highlights
•Superintendent job is effective Aug. 1, 2013, to July 31, 2014.
•$85,000 annual salary, with increases possible.
•Residency in district is strongly preferred.
•Health insurance, retirement fund and Medicare is completely paid for by board.
•Reimbursement for all “actual and necessary expenses” for attending professional meetings and participating in other “professional growth” opportunities.
•Reimbursement for “travel and other expenses required in the performance of the official duties during employment.”
•20 paid vacation days.
•5 personal days.
•He agrees to have comprehensive medical examinations at the board’s expense.

I wonder if his reimbursement for “travel and other expenses required in the performance of the official duties during employment.” includes getting his round trip mileage paid from Clyde to Monroeville every time he drives to work as did Willard's former superintendent Mr. Danhoff who refused to move into the district from Clyde. Current IRS rate is $0.56 per mile @ 32 miles round trip = $89.00+ per week if only traveled one time each day M-F. Add it up Monroeville!

"Reimbursement for all “actual and necessary expenses” for attending professional meetings and participating in other “professional growth” opportunities."
Would that include golf trips for himself and board members to a certain Wisconsin water park resort if it "should" become an opportunity?
Yes, I am being facetious. ;-)

Silence to your jealous naysaying. He'll get whatever expenses the occupation covers. If YOU had the job; YOU would get the same. He deserves to get compensated for dealing with YOUR children. YOU didn't apply and your probably NOT QUALIFIED. Keep your brain out of the heat.

I know it's HOT out, but take a CHILL pill OH-IO. You sure are mighty defensive. Why would one have to be jealous about incidents regarding issues that have been in and discussed about all over these internet pages? Oh and Go BLUE.

OH-IO

Haha! Now that's funny! Go somewhere blue.
