After deliberating for more than 15 hours over two days, jurors have reached a verdict in George Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial.

The jurors notified the judge Saturday night a little before 10 p.m. they had reached a decision.

Zimmerman was found not guilty of second-degree murder in Trayvon Martin's death. Zimmerman claims he shot Martin in self-defense.

The six-member, all-woman jury began deliberating at 2:30 p.m. Friday after spending part of the day listening to the defense closing arguments and a rebuttal from the prosecution.

The case drew massive protests after a 44-day delay in Zimmerman's arrest. Demonstrators demanded Zimmerman's arrest.

The police chief in Sanford, where Martin was shot and where the trial was being held, urged peace after the verdict was read.

If he wouldn't have gotten involved it never would have went to trial. That's why it's his fault. The original prosecutor didn't file charges because there wasn't enough evidence. Now look how it turned out, not enough evidence to convict.

shucks

Is there another way to settle it rather than going to court?

Pugsley

Didn't say there was but there obviously wasn't enough evidence for a criminal trial. Civil maybe, I can see a wrongful death suit filed in the near future.

shucks

Criminal trial or civil trial -- court is court. Right?

So again, how is this Obama's fault?

Richard Bebb

It will be Obama's fault for elevating a local case from a town of 50k people to the level of the presidency and making it a national issue. If he wants to interject himself somewhere why not start in his hometown of Chicago where black teenagers are shot and killed on a daily basis.

Re: "interject himself,"

Pres. Nixon said that Charles Manson was guilty and damn near caused a mistrial in the Tate-LaBianca Murder trial.

Wonder if TM's parents will file civil charges?

deertracker

The President DID NOT "interject" himself into this. He was asked a question during a press conference!

Re: "He was asked a question during a press conference!"

There's a diplomatic and presidential way to address local issues and then there's the gin-up the racial hatred Chicago street punk way - He chose the latter with his asinine comment.

sash

Your timeline is completely wrong. This case come to the President's attention BECAUSE it was a national story, not the other way around.

Re: "This case come to the President's attention BECAUSE it was a national story, not the other way around."

And he helped escalate the hatred and protests with his remarks.

IMO, he should have said little, or kept his BIG mouth shut.

...................Nonsense, even if true. You just hate Obama.

Dont really know much about this case. My aluminun foil fell off the rabbit ears on my TV. It was either cable or AOL Dial up. A Latino got into a fight with a African American, and its a white black thing?

Re: "a white black thing?"

Zimmerman's mother was Peruvian - might have some Native American in the mix.

It's about equal justice pooh!

Re: "It's about equal justice"

Right! Regardless of the race, creed, color, or sex of the accused.

WAY PAST time to give it up and move on DERPY II.

concernedtruth

The problem was that Trayvon martin was portrayed as this young innocent "boyish" of a little boy and that is far from the truth, they lied about the innocence of this young man and although his death was a tragedy he was not an innocent young man and had some issues of his own. Zimmerman should not of followed him and continued the confrontation, however he was defending his own life when he felt his life threatened and shot Trayvon Martin.

Check this out. It gives background info on both.

Like I posted on Facebook, I was more intrigued to see if the Indians won then if Juan Gonzales was found guilty. Cry racism all you want Juan is not how the native Americans once said "the white man". Soo let's move on to the next retarded court case.

Just another excuse to raise gas prices.

This is awesome news!!! An innocent man goes free and the courts did not give in to the pressures of racial tension. This is an important case for the U.S. for years to come.

Mark O'Mara, "Had Zimmerman been black, he would have never been charged with a crime."

This was brought to trial by a community claiming injustice to martyr Travyon Martin to benefit a delusional Civil Rights plan.

Glad we didn't take this from tragedy (death of Trayvon) to travesty (life taken from an innocent man: Zimmerman).

Free shopping day. Let all break out windows and take what you want. We just have to claim injustice.

Wouldn't be surprised... History could repeat itself (e.g. L.A. riots).

happyfeet64

I lived in LA before, during and after the riots-big,big difference between the dynamics of this case and what was and is continuing to happen out there.Again, the media portrayal of this case and what supposedly people were rioting about in LA weren't the true reasons. Rodney King was just an excuse-same as Zimmerman/Martin could be turned into excuses by the media.

jfoxlive

If he would have been black, It wouldn't have went this way. He would have been convicted long time ago of all charges.

I understand a number of people in this country will be upset by the out come of this trial. BUT, SIX WOMAN found him innocent!! It was the press all around the country who was selling guilty...for this they should be ashamed....just to sell a paper or advertising for their news show. The fact I see interesting is that when Martin was 'scared of someone following him" he called his girlfriend to show off with racial slang and descriptive words.....not the police to help him. He choose to show this (racial descriptive term) white person following him a lesson......ask yourself why he didn't want the police involved? He didn't call them....bad people never want to involve the police! Martin did not call the police! He choose to teach Zimmermann a lesson and started a beating so bad that then and only then he choose to defend himself. It is a sad story, I don't like any part of it. And now many others will riot in his name because the media couldn't control the new's story....now they have to just report it.

6 women? Could be 6 women like sam a.

middleclassworker

OK.....6 people......6 person's.......It is a known fact that most females (especially if they are mother's) would be more sympathetic to the prosecution than the defense in trial involving the death of a teenager.

Zimmer is free to go.
