Under cover underage alcohol buys net charges

“We’re trying to put a stop to some of the ways that kids get their alcohol,” Fremont police Detective Jason Kiddey said.

On Monday, detectives sent underage people into the stores, where they used their own IDs — underage IDs are vertical, instead of horizontal — to buy something small, such as a six pack of beer.

“There was no trickery,” Kiddey said.

After a snag at the first stop, where a teacher recognized one of their former students who has just graduated trying to buy booze, the next two visits to Mickey Mart Marathon and Speedway East were successful for the undercovers.

At the first, an undercover bought a six-pack of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and at the second bought a six-pack of Tecate. A few stops later, the person snagged another catch at Sunoco Friendship.

Then at the second to last stop of the day, a Walmart clerk sold Seagrams Fuzzy Peach. The clerk was fired on the spot, per the store’s no-tolerance policy.

“That wasn’t our intention to go out and get people fired,” Kiddey said. “People need to be diligent at their job.”

Sandusky County detectives also conducted controlled buys Monday. Clerks at two of 18 businesses sold to underage persons.

The Fremont clerks charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor included: Heather Isaacs, 27; Maxwell Beck, 20; Eric Wettrich, 34; and Brandon Kochs, 21.

OK. I am going to show my ignorance here. But what is "Hard Lemonade"? I used to drink "hard cider". I thought it was like "near beer" or something.

It's a little bit stronger than Kool-Aid!

Molon Labe

just like hard cider, hard lemonade has alcohol in it.

Mike's is 5.2% alcohol, although the Berry and Light Lemonade flavors are slightly less.

Go after the real crooks in Sandusky County, Ohio.

They did.

Tool Box

What is the deal with Fremont? They are always in the news for negative crap! Is there something in the ketchup?

Only in Ohio? Most in Illnois think that Ohio is very corrupt. Ask them.

HILARIOUS!! That's a joke right? Illinois, Crook County and Chitcago set the worldwide bar for obscene levels of corruption. Take the top 10 major metro areas in the US aside from Chicago, add up all the corruption and it wouldn't come close to that of Chicago alone. No doubt most in Illinois think everyone else is just as corrupt as they are. That is what makes Illinois rotten to the core down to every last voter. All the corrupt politicians, public officials, cops, judges, aldermen, business owners come straight from the ranks of corrupt, morally bankrupt, unethical, amoral citizens/voters of Illinois.

No, no state apart from Illinois is anywhere near as corrupt. They just assume it because all of them think integrity it a four-letter word

How STUPID do these clerks have to be??? It MAYBE be understandable if they gave them a fake OF AGE ID but to be handed an underage ID and STILL sell??? They all deserve severe fines, JAIL TIME and termination if found guilty

Bring back 3.2 beer.........

Memories hahaha

Kottage Kat
