Coast Guard rescues 3 on Lake Erie
Members of the Coast Guard rescued three people Saturday afternoon on the Lake Erie waters north of Vermilion.
They found a 19-foot recreational boat carrying three people that was taking on water, according to the Ninth Coast Guard District. The Coast Guard pumped out the water and towed it to the Vermilion boat launch. It was there that an inspection of the boat found a crack in the transom. A boat transom is where the outboard motor of a boat is typically mounted.
There were no injuries, the Coast Guard said.
Members of the Coast Guard said, however, waters are still cold enough to cause hypothermia. Water temperature on Saturday was about 50 degrees.
