One of this week's notes, from Greater Ohio Virtual School:

Eric Woods, a Firelands Symphony School of the Arts student from Sandusky, has been accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Woods has studied piano with Firelands Symphony for more than six years. The group awarded him a $1,000 scholarship Saturday toward his studies.

Berklee College of Music's alumni include Natalie Maines, lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, Joey Kramer, drummer of Aerosmith, and singer John Mayer. Its graduates have earned more than 225 Grammy Awards.

Woods will graduate in June with a high school diploma from Greater Ohio Virtual School, an online public school based in Lebanon, Ohio. He plans to study professional music in college.
