On Feb. 18, at around midnight, I experienced a very severe pain in my chest, like no pain I had ever felt. My wife immediately called 911. The rescue squad was at our house in a matter of minutes and after stabilizing me, transported me to Firelands Regional Medical Center. I had suffered a heart attack. I don't know how to put into words, my sincere appreciation to the three firefighters who responded to the call quickly and efficiently. Thank God that we have such a great fire department in Sandusky! I feel very fortunate that Station 3, near Causeway Drive, was still operational. Had the squad come from another distant location, my outcome might have been different. If there are ever additional personnel cuts, for financial reasons, to our city's safety forces, I would be the first person to say, please look for other ways to cut back. We need each and every one of these exceptionally trained members of the fire department at our service.
