A man was struck and killed by a train near Venice Road and Tiffin Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. today.

The man was decapitated, police said. During discussions over scanner traffic, they said the incident was "an obvious dead on arrival."

Police are working to identify the man. He is a white man in his late teens or early 20s, they said.

Keep checking back for updates and pick up a copy of tomorrow's Register for the full story.

Knucledragger, not true I've walked along those tracks alot of times b4 the construction going to work @ Mcdonald's and also the tracks there on Venice while I lived @ the shelter with earbuds in my ears listening to music and have NOT heard trains. If it wouldn't have been for the arms and lights' I wouldn't have known. Reason for earbuds @ high volume? Because of all the MEN who think a lone woman walking in that area is a hooker-got tired of ignorant men propositioning me- even in a Mickey D's uniform, they didn't care!

You mean to say that you couldn't FEEL the ground vibrations? Or the rumbling of the tracks?

awesome

You can't swerve a train to miss someone... This kid graduated with me and he was so sexy. He was a very good kid and very smart. It was suicide sadly. :'(

People need to stay off the damn tracks, I feel bad for the engineer's family too.. Why is it no one ever thinks what they go through- when it's clearly NOT their fault.

You cannot stop a 20 ton locomotive on a dime, people. The last I knew It took at least 2 miles braking distance, maybe more.

I'm just remembering what was hammered in my head when I was a kid... my dad's crew went through something similiar... all because some idiot tried to outrun a train.

Hmmm, that thought did cross my mind, yes, seems to be getting more commonplace.

KnuckleDragger

I thought the same thing. Now I'm getting ripped for it.

We don't yet know why this happened. All we know is that a young man has lost his life. I know how frustrated you can get by waiting on a train, but as starryeyes said, a train cannot stop on a dime. But then again, maybe this young man knew that. Or it could be that he walked behind a train that was already stopped. If the train was going fast, he might have been pulled into the train's path.

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to both the family of the young man who lost his life and the engineer and his family. So sad.

Most of you "regulars" need to grow up and get a life outside of commenting your rude and insenstive thoughts on Sandusky Register.com!! A man, possibly somebody's father, bother, or uncle, and definitely somebody's SON, has lost their life tragically and all you can think to do is post trash on a website behind a computer screen and fake name! I sure do pray that nothing so tragic ever happens to one of your family members and they become the butt of someone's jokes and insensitivity!!!....GROW UP!!.....And people wonder why the world that we live in is so crazy, you don't have to look very far outside of your own city to see why!
Praying for all parties involved in this tragedy!
