John Hensley, 47, of the 6500 block of Wahl Road, was arrested and taken to the Erie County jail but was quickly diverted to the hospital after complaining about medical problems. Deputies issued him a summons there and sent him on his way.

Hensley allegedly tried to punch township trustee Joe Bias during a public meeting on the proposed demolition of a home at 205 Crystal Rock Road, an Erie County deputy’s report said.

Hensley owns the rental home, which sustained serious damage in a fire in late 2011. Margaretta trustees said they’ve been trying to get him to repair the home for the past 18 months to no avail.

“Since the fire, about 18 months ago, the house was condemned by the building department, zoning department and health department,” said trustee Tim Riesterer, who attended Thursday’s hearing. “We’ve been trying to work with Mr.

Hensley to bring it up to the minimum housing standards that the township has ... (but) we haven’t seen progress on the property, as far as bringing it up to that minimum standard.”

There have been many reports of people breaking into the vacant home, Riesterer said.

“So we initiated action to have the house demolished,” he said.

Thursday night’s hearing was part of the process toward the home’s demolition. The rub came about 20 minutes into the meeting, as trustees and Hensley were discussing his options and the township’s plan to demolish the house. Hensley “became disruptive” and approached Bias, who was sitting at a table, the report said.

“Hensley then swung his fist at (Bias), who moved to avoid being struck,” the report said. “(Bias) then pinned Hensley against the wall while Hensley continued to try to strike him.”

Three deputies and a Castalia police officer rushed to the building and arrested Hensley.

“There’s a line for personal conduct at a public meeting, and I feel Mr. Hensley crossed that line,” Riesterer said.

Trustees aim to have the home torn down within the next month or so.

Ithink

But it IS ok for an elected official to LAUGH at someone? Talk about outlandish behavior. Bias wasn't acting in a professional manner and it's ok to turn a blind eye to that, huh? His behavior needs to be scrutinized just as much.

Slacker

He didn't laugh at anyone. Where did that come from? A person on this forum said "that they could see Bias laughing at someone". It did not happen in this instance, however.

Mrs. Brovolovski, Sun. 3/24/13 3:13pm, ". John Hensley went to that meeting in good faith that something could be arranged and instead he was laughed at by Mr. Bias." I think this poster said she either attended the meeting herself, or knows someone firsthand who did. Again, I can see Joe Bias laughing at someone else's misfortune.

(Very bad start. You just went and wrecked any relationship that you never had before.. Never start off with name calling or head knocking.

The rest of your commentary goes downhill fast. Pause and think about what you are trying to say.

If you seem/sound belligerent, you will be attacked. I promise. This group of people just waits for bait to feed on. You are now considered bait.

It's up to you.)

John is a long time friend of mine and he is a good person so don't send nasty comments about him or I will call you out with a comment. What did this man ever do to you Jeff.............nothing!!!!

grandmasgirl

What I don't understand is why is this man being singled out when there are houses all over the townships, cities, and state that need to be tore down? I can see an insurance company dragging their feet. It is also a shame that there is no compassion anymore. Does Mr. Hensley have any close family that can help him out? I have not been to Crystal Rock or White's Landing in years, but always loved the cottages.

We clearly have different definition of "good."

why the delay with the insurance company? usually they are pretty quick when it comes to an insured client losing a home to a fire. I'm sure there must be more to that story... i'd love to hear both sides. btw, I know Joe and he is one of the nicest guys i've ever met.

Ithink

Bias must have buttered your bread or wanted his slice buttered by you. He doesn't speak to someone unless he has something to gain by it. True story.

Briars, Thank you. Maybe some will understand my earlier comments a little "clearer" It is folks like you that point out what is the truth, Thanks again.

I wish Mr. Hensley and his family well. I hope he feels better and that they get along. I am sorry as I can be that all this trouble has fallen on them, but as someone said, it is their trouble.

No one has the right to strike another person no matter what they have said or done. Nothing is solved with violence. If he intended to solve his problems by striking that man, he was sadly mistaken.

He had plenty of time to do something with that property. He could have made arrangements and he did nothing. I don't believe he intended to do anything. I think he felt simply stiffled and he couldn't move. The truth is, it was his problem. Sick or not, he needed to do something. If he couldn't, his wife should have. That's what you do for one another when you are married.

The township has every right to make a move on it. I sincerely hope he will get better. With this house out of the way and the lot cleaned off perhaps he will feel less stressed. That vacant lot will be worth more than it sits now.

Good luck to he and his family. They need to start looking at the brighter side of things. That should help a great deal. They obviously have some friends. Try and help them see the brighter side. You have to start by helping yourself. God Bless.

RE: wiredmama222.. The land will be valued at X amount with the demolition fees ranging from $3500 to over $5000 assessed to our taxes.

Ruth Hensley

I have only one comment to make. Those of you who "speak" as though you know us. Please stop you are making me ill. If both sides of the story would have been published, I bet a lot of you wouldn't be saying the things you are. My husband is gravely ill. He deserves respect..He has many issues of which Im not going to make public. That way, the people who hide behind their screens wont be so BAD!! The stuff I have read on here, borders on the ridiculous.

Ruth Hensley

This is the last straw of the Margaretta township vs. Hensley saga that has went on for many years. Its public record, go the the margaretta township minutes and read!!!! We have abided by their rules, I have many many witnesses that have helped us through the years. For one instance there was a garage on Clyde Avenue. We tore it down and left the foundation..We went home for coffee only to be called the the Sandusky Register to be told, that no matter what we got done (it was all done) that Tom Keimer was still going to come in and raze the property. He did just that. He tore down a beautiful 100+ willow tree that was at least 8-10' at the base. What did a tree have to do with anything?? You get no where when you "worked" with that man..Our house that burned, the person who demolished it, in his professional opinion (he is a reputable builder in our area) said we could rebuild on the foundation. He was told no by Tom Keimer, so he had to finish the demolition of our septic tank, black top driveway and all...Oh the stories we could tell..John even once had a seizure while working on one of the houses Margaretta township required to be worked on. While everyone was standing around in the flurry of activity that happens once a rescue squad is called, I hear one of the first responders say to John You may not cooperate with me now, but you will once your strapped down on a guerney. I STOPPED EVERYTHING.. I told them to take their hands off of John. Anybody that knows anything about seizure disorders, knows there is a period of time thats called post-ictal (after-seizure) where the person is disoriented, confused and very tired.. How would you like to hear that from "professional responders"?These first responders doubled as Margaretta officials. I took him to the emergency room myself. I have many many stories to tell. So you haters keep on hating. You talk bad behind the screen. Afew more stories and maybe you will all shut your mouths and move on.

Ruth Hensley

I never made scenes at the school over the discipline of my children. The only scene I ever made and I know who you are to even post such a thing about this, is my daughter Brittany had very recently been diagnosed with a seizure disorder. One day she called me crying and said she had a splitting headache. I went to the school to take her home. I was appalled when I heard the "person" in charge of giving Britt her dismissal slip ask my daughter if she had been smoking pot because her eyes were so red(she never accounted for the fact that Britts eyes were swollen from crying) I automatically made arrangements to have my daughter drug tested, she was clean. Britt went on to have a seizure later that day. My family has had a HUGE reality check when you can group a whole school system together on an inservice school day, have the Epilepsy foundation on Michigan/Ohio come to the school and educate these "caretakers". What a huge surprise. A movie was presented about Epilepsy , the do's and dont's etc. Then open forum time came... The only question that was asked was about liability..IMAGINE THAT!!! After that day, Britt had a teacher "stalk" her, following her every where "just in case she might cut class and wind up near the pool" I had to get more than 1 doctor slip to make certain teachers happy, so Britt could attend class. Walk a mile in her shoes being singled out of 4 classes because of seizures!!! It took all the courage she could muster to go back to school in the first place!!! I complained about this teacher to no evail. I told her to quit e-mailing me, calling, writing letters and finally withdrew Britt from Margaretta and the principal told me I was doing the "right thing" So much for going the extra mile for a teen with a disability...

"demolition of a home at 205 Crystal Rock Road"

If the house has value, why would the trustees want to demolish it? Has anybody ever tried to go against "bad faith" insurance companies?

The man appears to be very ill. Cut him some slack.

The fire was "late 2011" yet I see no reduction on property taxes.
See parcle 34-00136.000
http://erie.iviewauditor.com/Dat...

The house for tax purposes is listed as in "FAIR" condition.

Why would the trustees want to demolish a home that is in fair condition and worth over $15,000?

Ruth Hensley

your question is as good as mine Centauri!!!! My husband is very very ill as they are very aware. They think, stripped down land, taking out septic tank etc makes the land more valuable!!! Margaretaa swoops in, condemns, tearsdown whatever said property, septic tank and all...Septic cant be left..They tear out trees, the whole shebang..

Ruth Hensley

Heres an interesting site..Pick a year!!!! Any year!!!! Any month!!!! Somebodies property is on their agenda!!! Hensley name comes up alot!!! they pulled a grand one when my husband was in Toledo Hospital and attacked 3-4 parcels of land at once, they were demolished before he was discharged..

"they pulled a grand one when my husband was in Toledo Hospital and attacked 3-4 parcels of land at once, they were demolished before he was discharged.."

This sounds like a winning story for the Sandusky Register to cover.

Centauri

Please note the comparables of this property.

http://erie.iviewauditor.com/Rep...

Will these comparables also be demolished?

This is a very good story for the Sandusky Register to cover.

Ruth Hensley

It's worth a try again Centauri, but through the years they have been uninterested

I know people that live in Crystal Rock. They tell me that Margaretta is tearing down houses left and right over there and not letting them rebuild. They want to acquire that bay-front property to sell it off to a developer who will in turn, raise condos and very expensive homes.

I also heard that they are trying the same in White's landing.

I have no proof, but that's what's being said from both places, from folks who live there.

Ruth Hensley

I have heard the same thing!!! I was afraid to post that!!!! Crystal Rock, has one way in ,one way out!!!(Perfect gated community) There was a $40,000,000 deal gone wrong because the family got into an argument over selling the land to Ducks Unlimited...P.S I know the family Take a cruise through Crystal Rock and look at all the homes that have disappeared!!!
