A convicted sex offender remains in jail on a single charge of rape after Sandusky County deputies arrested him last week.
Juanito Moreno Jr., 34, was charged for the December 2011 sexual assault of a woman who is now 27 years old. The woman was treated at a Toledo hospital after the assault, according to the report.
Fremont detectives collected a DNA sample from Moreno and sent it to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, along with a piece of the victim’s clothing, according to the report. BCI analysts returned test results to the police department a year ago, showing Moreno’s DNA matched DNA found on the woman’s clothing, Detective Jason Kiddey said
Moreno was arrested based on an indictment in that case.
He's a registered sex offender convicted in 2003 of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to court records. He was sentenced to a year in prison in that case.
He didn’t stay out of prison long. In 2008, he went back for another eight months after pleading guilty to a felony domestic violence charge, according to court records.
He was also charged with felony domestic violence about six months ago, but that case is pending in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court.
