Are you watching the same video? You are blaming the Officer for not shooting the dog again? The owner showed aggression himself. He punches the door and you want this SPD to shoot the dog in front of him again with no back up to talk to the owner.

What about mace? Tazing? IF he felt threatened! Seems he shot the dog awful soon to me.
It's easy for us to sit here and pass judgment on what we think the officer should or should not have done. I do not personally know either of the parties involved. The simple fact remains that the dog was not on a leash and was running the sidewalks/street when the officer pulled up. I am a dog owner and pet lover period and honestly feel the officer did what he thought was best at that moment. If my dog was out running the streets then that is on me. The dog was barking and ran in between the house of the owner before getting shot. If they were so concerned they should have come to the door when they heard the barking. In my opinion the dog lost her life because of her irresponsible owner and nobody else. I really feel that she wants someone to blame other than herself and who better to take the fall than the officer for attempting to keep the public safe (which is his job).

If this is considered keeping the public safe then we're all screwed.
char, the dog was not charging, or threatening. However, that's irrelevant. No one who meets the physical requirements to be a police officer should need a firearm to deal with any lone dog, EVER. At the age of 14, at a decidedly UNathletic 130 lb., I faced a (larger than this dog) male attack-trained Rottweiler, with nothing but a rolled up newspaper. I've also sent a full grown Akita wimpering away using nothing but a decent pair of solid shoes.
Again, accidents happen, dogs ACCIDENTLY get loose. I bet if yours got loose on accident, you wouldn't be too happy it was shot. As for the owner should have gotten there sooner, maybe they couldn't, maybe they were on the potty or something.....well.....it's the truth. The dog was shot too soon for anyone to intervene

I am not Caesar the dog whisperer, but I promise one thing. I could have walked up to that dog with no problem. It was in no way in a threatening stance. That cop had many other options. The girl was wrong for him to be loose and not tagged but that was just wrong.
I hope that vid goes viral.
Granted, the owner is ultimately responsible, but this is freakin disgusting!!!!!! He didn't even try to capture the dog. Instead, within less than a minute, about 45 sec. from arriving, this dog was shot in the head, once. I'm left wondering why he didn't finsih the job, putting the dog out of it's misery he chose to inflict?
Pay attention dog-owners/lovers! Any chance of your animal escaping, running loose within the streets of Sandusky? If they're big, a certain kind of breed and barkers, plan on burying them instead of picking them up at the Dog Pound.
This ^
"Owner's Negligence Ends In Dog's Death" pretty much sums it up for me. Sad end, no ones fault but the owner's. Buy tags when you're supposed to and keep your dog confined/on a leash. My dog didn't get shot today because mine was not running the streets. People opposing this officer have obviously never been on the other end of an unknown dog with an unknown demeanor who has previously charged other people and is growling at you. Take some responsibility for your negligence.
False assumption. I have worked with animals, been growled at, been charged at and almost had my face bit off. Never once did I shoot one in the head and then stand there watching it for 10 minutes before it died.
In what capacity did you work with animals?
Does it matter? I've been in plenty of situations where I was in danger of being attacked & have had to use catch poles to subdue an aggressive dog. Again, never shot one.
It does matter because A) different scenarios offer different legitimate reactions, also B) people lie on the internet behind their computer.
I didn't see or hear the dog growl. It just barked. That's what good dogs do.
Did Lang even watch this video?
I can't bring myself to watch this video. It saddens me and after seeing everyones comments that the dog was actually trying to retreat I don't understand why he shot her and then let her suffer!! There was other ways of handling this like going up to the front door and knocking. Is there another hot headed cop that just goes around shooting their gun off? Something needs to be done! It doesn't matter if it was a poodle or a rottweiler both dogs will growl and bark if they are being cornered especially at their own residence.
We can find fault on both sides, but officer stated he had no other choice. The dog should of been tased,if dog died then,he had no other choice!God Bless us all!
You're obviously not familiar with tasers. How can you tase a dog that is facing you? Gonna shoot it in the face? Not a very good spread, not very effective.

Check my comment at 11:39AM in reference to OC/pepper spray (also known as mace) and then revise your comment.

Good one.
Not true. Please do not post unless you know what you are talking about.
Mace/pepper spray will not subdue an animal.
SR reported SPD tased a dog last year successfully.
