Church looks at questions for God

If you could ask God any question, what would you ask?
Matt Westerhold

Will I be saved? Does everything really happen for a reason? Are my deceased loved ones doing OK?

Click here for the e*Paper or get a copy of Sunday's Register to find out what questions people are asking God, and, maybe even what the answers might be.

Send these queries, and more, to a local church's leaders, and they'll try to provide the answers.

Grace Community Church in Fremont begins its third "#GodQuestions" series today, kicking off a month-long program dedicated to tackling tough issues surrounding religion and faith.

True Believer, huh? Then you know Jesus already rescued you some 2,000 years ago. Yes?

John Harville

"Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father" John 14:9

Gotta be careful which Gospel you choose, Con. Each writer had a different purpose... and different memories.

Here john Harville, here's a gift for you also :

http://www.gotquestions.org/diff...

You would be wise to get into it.

John Harville

4-shizzle... thanks!... for edifying much of what I've said here.

Now for you - if yoou're man enough. "Jesus without the Miracles" - Thomas Jefferson's Testament.

Jefferson argued Jesus was a premier politician - without all the mystical trappings. A truly enlightening read by the 'hero of the Tea Party.

BTW... never had questions. Quite secure in my faith without religion.

@ JH:

Most scholars place the writing of the Gospel of John at around 90-100 CE. Long after the death of Jesus.

Outside of Paul's writings it is the most aprocryphal with heavy Greek influence.

4shizzle

You imagine yourself as a great spiritual teacher.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

Contango

@ 4shizzle:

Nope. Religion is largely the refuse of hucksters and charlatans.

Read Philo, the Greek influence in John is very evident.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philo

The NT is a mishegas of ancient philosophical thought.

4shizzle

LOL !!!

@ 4shizzle:

For one, read up on the origins of the concept of H*ll. It ain't Jewish - it's Greek.

4shizzle

...and it's hot !!!

Who do you imagine you are now?...Annie Wilkes?...that you can't say Hell ?

freethinker1

I would remain amiss if I didn't put in a good word for The Flying Spaghetti Monster. May the Pasta be with you all....

starryeyes83

I'm more partial to Godzilla and Marvin the Martian, myself.

:)

Just Sayin IMHO

Why, when I try so hard... am I always getting it wrong... when can I come home?

John Harville

Is this where we insert the question about David and Jonathan being lovers?

John Harville

Question: If the questions were so answerable, wouldn't we long ago have gone on to Eternal Bliss - rather than this ignorant bliss of thinking one man has the 'keys' Jesus gave to Peter? This entire series is a farce.

John Harville

"Thou shall have no other gods BEFORE me."
N O T
"Thou shall have NO OTHER gods."

Even God didn't say there was only one.

Tootsiemomma

Why is our country going to hell in a hand basket??

John Harville

tootsie... because there are so many people trying to put their God-Spin on things and make laws God and Jesus and Allah never intended. That's why we're in the handbasket.

G_Richardson

I would like to know the question to Life, The universe and everything. I have the answer already (42), I just need the question.

@ G_Richardson: lol

God, can you explain to me why, when you get really close to dying, a person suddenly believes there is something out there "bigger" than themselves? That they want to have some help before they die and they want to get right with that "being" they claim not to believe in during their last few breaths? Just curious?

John Harville

After years in the field, I have noticed is's usually the believers who need verification. Atheists and others know there is nothing beyond and are quite satisfied.

Nothing is as it seems and neither is it otherwise. - Zen koan.

We are the product of stars that exploded eons ago.

That IMO, should be mysterious enough for most simian brains to ponder.

4shizzle

Egotistical Zen nonsense.
Yea, stardust magically formed human life.
I've got stardust that is magically turning into a bridge to sell you.

John Harville

4shizzle... in this one thread you have done more to turn people away from the Triune God than anyone I've ever read. You should put your name in to succeed Pope Benedict - and carry on his mission to drive the faithful from religious practice.
I think, for that I thank you.
As Ghandi said, "I wish your Christians were more like your Christ."

John Harville

The bible (according to you ) clearly reveals the deep darkness that you are in.

Matt 22:29
But Jesus replied to them, You are wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor God’s power.

John Harville

Talk to us about Lillith - the FIRST woman - created equally with Adam and the other animals from the mud. But, according to Hebrew tradition (and they have the keys to the oral history), Lillith was too demanding of her equality (she wanted to 'top' once in awhile)and Adam asked for a replacement who would 'obey'. So God banished Lillith, put Adam to sleep, and took some of his DNA to create Eve (I think today it's called cloning?) from under his arm to be protected.
It's about time to take this thread down, right?

freethinker1

If there were a God (and there isn't), I would ask why he allows babies to die of cancer, starvation or other slow, agonizing deaths? Next I would ask him why there are so many people who actually believe the weak weak weak excuses religion provides for why God allows such atrocities.

4shizzle

Because of sin.

Contango

“Sin” is nonsense, not unlike the imaginary beings you talk to.

Love me or I'll send you to H*ll. Nice dysfunctional deity ya got there.

What should you expect from a god who crucified His own son?
