Ohio woman claims she was fired for Obama vote

A southwest Ohio woman who says she was fired because she voted for President Barack Obama filed a lawsuit against her former employer.

Patricia Kunkle's lawsuit accuses Dayton-based defense contractor Q-Mark Inc. and its president of telling employees that if Obama was re-elected, then his supporters would be the first to be fired, The Dayton Daily News reported.

Brian Wildermuth, an attorney for the company president, said in a statement that Kunkle was laid off for economic reasons — "nothing more."

"I am sure you and your readers are familiar with the ongoing uncertainties regarding defense spending, and thus the economic environment confronting defense contractors," he said. "The allegation that Q-Mark discharged Ms. Kunkle because of her vote is simply false."

Kunkle, of Kettering, has an unlisted phone number and her Dayton attorney didn't immediately respond to a request to speak with her.

The lawsuit, filed in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on Feb. 14, seeks a minimum of $25,000. It says that Kunkle's vote came up in conversation on Nov. 7, the day after the election, and that she was fired Nov. 9. The suit claims that the company's president and owner, Roberta Gentile, said the firing was in the "best interest of the company."

The lawsuit said that Gentile engaged Q-Mark employees in conversations aimed at discovering their political affiliations and repeatedly disparaged Obama supporters.

Kunkle started as a temporary worker with the small company in April and became full-time in May, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit said that she performed her duties "efficiently and effectively," and never received any disciplinary action or negative performance evaluations.

Defense attorneys have until mid-March to respond to the lawsuit.

The Big Dog's back

Typical right winger she is, cut off her nose to spite her face. What a hateful person.

SamAdams

Why would you call her hateful? Because she chooses not to attend a speech given by someone with whom she disagrees? Really? Apparently, there's no freedom of association under your first amendment (in addition to all of the OTHER freedoms you seem perfectly happy to have lost/be losing).

Tell me, Big Dog, would YOU attend an event where protest was inappropriate (it's a graduation ceremony, after all) with a keynote speaker that was a man or a woman you loathed? I don't care HOW famous somebody is, I wouldn't be inclined to sit through their nonsense if I truly felt it was nonsense (or worse). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'll bet pretty much whatever you like that you wouldn't either!

So does that make YOU hateful?

Even if it were Bush I would attend. Why is it since a Black man is President you righties lost respect for the office?

2cents

It not the office, more like what take place there. Heyy Bille where be that purple dress, we needs to gets the laundry peoples ups heres! YaHa YeHa

SamAdams

Actually, I lost respect for the office over issues involving WHITE men! Or do you now claim that Nixon was "not a crook," Ford wasn't clumsy (on many levels), Carter wasn't hopelessly inept (nice guy, but truly unqualified), Clinton wasn't a sexual predator, Bush 1 wasn't a liar, or Bush 2 wasn't a liar and more?

As for black men and the presidency, where were you twenty years ago when a black man was running for the office? I very seriously considered voting for that black man! In 2012, I ALSO would have liked to vote for a black man because he was eminently qualified, but I couldn't because someone else won the nomination. My disdain for the presidency goes directly toward my disdain for much of today's politics; my disgust with Barack Obama is related to his nightmare vision for the country, not his skin color.

Now answer me THIS, Big Dog: Isn't it JUST as racist to vote FOR somebody based on skin color as it is to vote AGAINST somebody for that reason? And, if so, doesn't that put that label on a whole lot of people in recent years? It may not be true for you personally, but any number of news stories featured comments by people, black and white alike, who were so enamored with voting for a black man that everything else was put aside. That's just as ignorant and shameful as the reverse, you know...

KnuckleDragger

Ahh yes, when a Dem can't say something intelligent...play the race card. Are you off your meds again, brutus, uh betrump, uh I mean Big Dog?

swiss cheese kat

@The Big Dog's back

Your intelligence shines again. Why do you libtards have to bring the race card?

KnuckleDragger

Yep, she will likely be one of those right wingers out working and supporting all the liberal arts grads that will be standing with their hands out. Maybe they can skip the middle man and ask the Pres for the cash right after the ceremony.

My kid called me from college when he was relected crying on the phone. Dad what am I going to do, the gas prices I, I, I...

The Big Dog's back

Thanks right wingers for proving my point.

wiredmama222

@mikel..it isn't brainwashing to sit through a commencement where the President (even if it isn't one you voted for) might speak. In fact, I doubt that any president would speak about politics at ANY graduation ceremony, but more about the future. He is, in fact, a very good speaker. So to miss your own graduation for such a simple thing as a political belief isn't a sign of being brainwashed "against" something but more like being brainwashed "for" it. And for all the wrong reasons. I feel sorry for her.

Pete

Why would anyone graduating college want to listen to a life long government dependent talk at their graduation?

Most actually want to work for a living, instead of sponging off others for everything.

The Big Dog's back

Obama easily won the youth vote nationally, 67 percent to 30 percent, with young voters. Shoots that theory petey.

coasterfan

Maybe he is talking about Rubio, whose family were the beneficiaries of lots of government help?

wiredmama222

@the big dog...again, the republicans missed that one too. You won't convince them of anything, but nice try. I agree with you. When they lose again in the next election, I cannot WAIT to hear the complaining then.

Fromthe419

The Kleptocrats in Washington have succeeded. In this forum we are fighting amongst ourselves (and everywhere else for that matter). Everything coming out of DC is political theater and artifice. It's sleight of hand, the D's and R's don't give one crap about any of us. All they care about is securing their power base. Big Dog you can worship Obama as the Messiah, those on the right can worship who ever is the flavor of the month, but until we get serious and have an adult conversation about the direction of this country nothing will be accomplished. Fact: We are currently spending 1 trillion dollars more than we take in; it isn't going to be easy, but we must find a way to bring this down. Fact: If this issue is not dealt with by 2045, 100% of the US budget will be spent on interest of the national debt and there will be no money for education, defense, agriculture, transportation, social security, medicaid, medicare and all of the other services we enjoy. I don't want "hope and change" or "mission accomplished." I want leadership that will tell me the truth, even if it is not what I want to hear. We as a nation have to grow up, the system is not working and to continue on this path will lead to the destruction of our nation.

wiredmama222

@Fromthe419...and what, exactly, is the republican held congress doing to help UNSTALL this country that they have held captive for almost 8 years now? Absolutely nothing. I see it certainly did not stop them from forcing a few little lines into the last agreement so money could be given to a special interest group, now did it?

You want to be told the truth, but the truth is that NONE of the people running Washington are going to tell any of us the truth, No matter what their political affiliation! Now that IS the truth. They have way to much to lose. And it makes me sick. Right or left, republican or democrat: these people have held us all hostage for way to long now.

The more government we have crawling down our throats, the worse it gets. How much do you think the wars that Bush started has cost this country? When it stops, how much will we save?

How much money do you think we waste sending funds to other countries....money we BORROWED? Have you ever looked it up? My husband has. Its frightening. You cannot imagine the billions this country has aided and will never get back. Why? Each of those countries at one time or another has turned on us and still is.

How many more times is this country going to stand up for Isreal (sp) and why? We have NO business being involved in any of the goings on in the middle east, but oil. Yet we have more than enough right here at home. Why do we even get involved? We shouldn't.

You want a "grown up" discussion on where this country is headed....straight down the pipeline. It began in the Bush era and it keeps on going. Oh, now tell me that it isn't the Republican's that started it. Yes, it is, and the Democrats who came after. This country has been teetering since Clinton.

We have no recourse because the boys and girls in Washington do not listen nor do they care about any of us out here. You think they do? You need to re think that position. Write a congressman or two, like I have. Then tell me that. Call a couple like i have....then tell me that.

The only way this country will survive is when this country is lead by someone from NEITHER party who is smart enough to make it work. When we stop sending the same people back to congress over and over again and then whine about the way things go.

If you don't vote, don't whine. If you do vote and it didn't go your way, live with it until the next vote. If that doesn't suit you...run for office.

The truth is, it will take a revolt to get this country on track again and I am scared to death that is exactly what is coming. Not this year, maybe not next....but it is brewing. And when it does, we won't have a country to worry about because that is when our enemies will take us over anyway. Probably China.

KnuckleDragger

Repubs only hold 1/3 of gov't, the Dems hold the Senate and the Presidency. Want to try again? Your ignorance is killing me.

The Big Dog's back

Nobody controls the Senate because neither party has 60 votes.

coasterfan

Apparently, 2nd Opinion is having difficulty coming to terms with the realization that a majority of Americans found Obama to be a better choice than anything the Republicans had to offer in 2008 and in 2012. The reality, of course, is that Obama is a huge improvement over his predecessor in every way. Name calling and regurgitating the same tired Fox News talking points only serves to paint him as just another angry right wingnut who can't figure out just how his point of view became a decided minority.

wiredmama222

Thank you for stating that in such a very eloquent manner.

How?

Rome had bread and circuses. Pres. Obama had the "Obama Phone" and more.

Too many Americans are on food stamps, welfare, and disability - these are the modern equivalent of the 1930s soup lines.

The Depression is hiding under a mountain of taxpayer handouts fueled with the help of borrowed and printed money.

Pres. Obama: Come follow me; we can be like Greece.

wiredmama222

Her first mistake was telling anyone who she voted for at work. The second was hoping that it wouldn't be taken seriously.

kURTje

Many here show what they live for. Dollars 1rst. That's exactly why they've been divorced & have so much other strife in their lives.

KnuckleDragger

LOL. Yup that's it. Been married 21ys and we are still as happy as the first day we started dating. The only strife I have is watching all the people around me suffer due to the idiocy of the non-producers in our society.

Recently read that the Feds have funded 56 financial literacy programs.

Can we say: Waste, fraud and abuse with a large dose of irony?

Been married once and for several decades to my financial partner. She likes the way she lives as do the other people we help support.

It ain't the money, it's what you do with it.

Ain't never seen a U-Haul being pulled by a hearse.

Steelerfan7272

Well it's a two sided coin for me. #1 you shouldn't be fired for your beliefs but on the other hand if you were dumb enough to vote for that idiot and brag about it you get what you deserved! But fear not you won't lose your cell phone and you will be able to be on a lifetime of welfare and have your gas paid for along with your car repairs all paid for by Obama so fear not!

goofus

They keep saying Obozo inherited a mess, well firemen inherit a mess everyday, but I don't see them throwing gasoline on it !!!!!
