Sandusky Bay agents profile Hispanics, use slur 'wetbacks'

Three very large corporate farms in Huron County "harbor wets."

So said Agent in Charge of the Sandusky Bay U.S. Border Patrol, Cory Bammer,  according to court documents filed in federal court Thursday.

"Wets" is a shortening of the term "wetback," a derogatory racial slur used against people of Hispanic or Mexican descent.

In the email reviewed by attorneys suing the Border Patrol and Bammer, he allegedly told his agents in an email that cooperation with Huron County law enforcement is important because of the three large farms — and the people who work there.

"That doesn't meet my view of the way that we should be in the United States of America," said attorney Leslie Murray, one of several lawyers representing five individuals and two organizations in a lawsuit filed against the agency in 2009.

Yes, I have a problem with those who "ignore it" because there are people who wait their turn. I have a friend who chose to go to college in Russia because the time period to come to the US at that time was long. He is now here and gainfully employed in the dental field, paying his way, paying his taxes and supporting himself. I have a problem with those who just want to come over illegally, send earnings home, pay no taxes, freeload off of the system, sometimes cause trouble and are hard to find. If they do it the legal way and pay their fair share I have no problem. My ancestors came here to escape the rule of England in 1635, yes we are almost all immigrants that built this country and I am saddened to see the current administration working around the constitution my ancestors helped write as well as fight for!

2cents, I could not agree with you any more, great comments...

Did your ancestors have a green card? Show us!

Swamp Fox

deertracker, by going through Ellis Island and following the law at that time they did have the "green card" of that time...

There wasn't a USA in 1840? Well, Texas actually was its own Republic.
I'm not ignoring history. Your relatives were among the 12 million who came through between 1892 and 1954. Before 1855 there was no processing center - the ship passenger list was given to Customs and people made their declarations.
1855-1890 10 million came through Castle Garden into New York for processing.
Immigration was left to individual states. In 1875 Congress passed a law putting it in the hands of the government under "The Commerce Clause" - the same one used for Obamacare. But the Federal government didn't take charge until 1890.
"The Problem" is the $800 for a Green Card and a naturalization test I'm guessing you couldn't pass.

John Harville writes:

"And lest we forget, the FIRST residents of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California were - oops - Mexican."

No, they were citizens of Spain.

Mexico only controlled TX for 15 yrs.

John Harville

Contango... as the caucasians in the Americas were 'citizens' of Great Britain/France/Spain? Regardless, they were not residents of the United States (of which there was none) the same as the British subjects who crossed the Alleghenys were 'citizens' of France.
The one who wins the war gets to write the history.
But before it all, all of us in the Western Hemisphere are "Americans" - even those of us who came prior to 1700.

Bottom line, illegal, undocumented workers, or what ever term is proper, but in the end they are illegal and cost the taxpayers money and legal workers jobs. Is Murray & Murray in this case because of their social conscience or for the money, I think we all know the answer to that.

Bluto

No , the bottom line is regardless of legal status racial slurs have NO place in these officers reports.

John Harville

Swamp... Are you gonna go pick pickles? Plant and harvest tomatoes? Farm grapes? For minimum wage? Where are all the Americans who want to do these jobs? If they were knocking down the gates to work, would there be a need for migrant workers?
The illegality is by the farmers hiring the workers without checking their status.
But it's hard to hate the white guys, huh?

clubfrog

Q: What is the difference between an illegal immigrant and E.T.?

A: E.T. eventually went home!

clubfrog

Q: Why are the children the ones being hardest hit by immigration reform in the south?

A: Because parents now have to start raising their own children !

There you go again

Murray and Murray?!?! You've got to be kidding! I heard business was slow but this is really scraping the barrel........

The Big Dog's back

We have had right wingers all throughout our history. Washington thinned the herd while he was President. Civil War thinned them out again.

Swamp Fox

dog breath you must be referring to Patroits during both Washington & Lincoln's time, the far left of the time were referred to as carpetbaggers.....

Not going to the 2nd coronation of the messiah, its much like booking on the return voyage of the Titanic....

LMAO :)

John Harville

Swamp "Patriots" in the Revolution were adherents to the Father (Pater)land and King aka Tories. That's where the Tea Party Patriots are so confused - the men who dumped the tea and tarred and feathered the boat captains - never were patriots.
"Patriots" in the Civil War were the ones who fought to preserve the Union and the Constitution.
The Far Left in the Revolution were 'carpetbagggers"? Actuallyl the far left in the Revolution were the slaveowners and capitalists who beetched about taxes even after the taxes were lifted by the Crown.
In Andrew Johnson's time (Lincoln was deade before the carpetbaggers rolled in) up to the present the carpetbaggers and their descendants were/are right and far right. Dixiecrats? Southern Republicans? Strom Thurmond? KKK? "White Only"?
Your own Frances Marion was a rightist.

So let's get this straight....
If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor. If you cross the Afghanistan border illegally, you get shot. 2 Americans not long ago received 8 years for crossing the Iranian border illegally. If you cross the U.S. border illegally, you get a job, a driver's license, food stamps, a place to live, health care, housing, child benefits, education, and a tax free business for 7 years? No wonder we're a country in debt!! Oh by the way crossing into Mexico illegally ( is equivalent to a felony punishable by two years' imprisonment. Document fraud is subject to fine and imprisonment; so is alien marriage fraud. Evading deportation is a serious crime; illegal re-entry after deportation is punishable by ten years' imprisonment. Foreigners may be kicked out of the country without due process and the endless bites at the litigation apple that illegal aliens are afforded in our country ( for example, Obama's illegal alien aunt — a fugitive from deportation for eight years who is awaiting a second decision on her previously rejected asylum claim). Maybe the U.S. should adopt the same rules and laws that Mexico has!!! Something to ponder for sure!!

Mum-of-One

If America adopted the same rules and laws as Mexico everybody would want to leave. The whole world looks up to America!

happycamper01

Sad to say but not the whole world looks up to our great country. Many Middle Eastern countries and African countries do not. I have also met and spoken to many European who would not want to raise a family in the United States because of the lack of respect, discipline, and poor educational standards in this country. We are known worldwide as "RUDE AND STUPID AMERICANS" because of our poor behavior and lack of support for our educational system. We are failing our children morally, ethically, and educationally. Just look at the many, many, many countries who top us both in appropriate respectful behavior and education. We are supposed to be looked up to but we bring our own downfall and disdain because of our need to have freedom to do and act however we want.

Mum-of-One

America did not get where it is today by being "rude and stupid"!

thinktwice

However, that is where it is at today.

happycamper01

Sure we did. We came and murdered millions of Native Americans. We bought, sold, abused and murdered slaves. We bullied our own citizens of color, and discriminated against them. We did/do the same to other countries under the guise of being protector of the world at times. However, we do try to change but instead of meeting in the middle we go from one extreme to the other. We try to end discrimination but then people toss around the race card when it is not warranted. They call each other slurs then get mad when another race calls them that. We try to parent but then get accused of abuse if we do. We are either too strict or too lenient. Right now we are too lenient in the name of the freedom to do whatever we feel like because it is our right to do so even to the harm or disrescpect of others. It is okay because it is a right to be mean, rude, disrespectful, and a selfish mule. It doesn't matter who you treat this way but don't let someone treat you this way because OMG then it is wrong. This type of thinking is sad and wrong. Whatever happened to following the golden rule? If we did that then we would be back on track to being looked up by the world.

deertracker

Agreed!

Swamp Fox

The problem is everyone is to sensitive and looks to be a victim.....

happycamper01

I am neither liberal nor conservative. I just call things as I see them. And yes, people want to play the victim instead of taking responsibility for themselves all the time.

happycamper01

It doesn't matter that we didn't start the slave trade. It matters we continued it. I do not see your point of this link but your 2cents is appreciated.
