NORWALK

Although he stabbed a 14-year-old boy in the stomach, Trent Elmer will not go to prison, officials said.

Elmer, 21, of Norwalk, was sentenced on Tuesday to four to six months in a community-based correctional facility and then will be placed on probation for three years, said Huron County prosecutor Russ Leffler.

"The judge, I think, thought the kid was young and stupid and gave him a chance with a CBCF," Leffler said.

At a party in a wooded area near Norwalk on July 9, Elmer stabbed the boy in the stomach after a fight broke out, officials said.

Leffler asked for prison time, but said the victim asked the judge for leniency and the judge obliged.

"I wish he would have got a taste of prison," Leffler said.

Elmer, who was friends with the victim, was charged with felonious assault.
