A 42-year-old Sandusky man was arrested Thursday for allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Michael C. Palmison was charged with two felony counts of corruption of a minor and could face anywhere from two to eight years for each charge, Sandusky prosecutor Lynn Gast-King said.
Perkins police say Palmison had sex with the girl twice at a Perkins Township home. The girl is a friend of Palmison's children, Perkins police Chief Ken Klamar said.
Palmison appeared in Sandusky Municipal Court on Friday morning, where his case was continued until he could retain an attorney. He is being held at the Erie County jail on a $40,000 bond.
Messages left at the family home were not returned.
Police started investigating after a complaint from Huron County Children Services, Klamar said. The girl's mother brought her to the Perkins Police Department.
Klamar said Palmison initially denied the charges.
But when interviewed a second time, he took a voice stress test that showed some indicators of anxiety.
At that point, he admitted to having sex with the girl on two occasions, Klamar said.
The investigation is ongoing in other jurisdictions because of allegations that other incidents occurred at another location.
Palmison was convicted in 1987 of the charge of corruption of a minor, so the current charges carry stronger penalties, Klamar said.
Palmison was not charged with rape because of the victim's age and because she told police she consented, Klamar said. With that information, the Erie County prosecutor's office recommended the charge.
Mary Ann Barylski said she could not speak about the specifics of the case because she was not in her office. She said for a defendant to be charged with more severe crimes like statutory rape, the victim has to be 13 years or younger.
