According to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers investigating the crash, Thomas Tanner, 66, of Lakeside Marblehead, was driving a 2001 GMC Sierra truck east on East Bayshore Road at about 5:40 p.m. when a 1995 Ford Ranger went left of center and hit the Sierra head-on.
Tanner suffered serious injures and was taken by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. His passenger, Robert S. Wisniewski, 79, of Lakeside Marblehead, was also injured in the crash and taken to Magruder Hospital.
Wisniewski had been involved in another car crash just a few hours earlier in Danbury Township and was on his way home from the hospital at the time of the second crash.
The driver of the Ranger, Jacob D. Burns, 22, also of Lakeside-Marblehead, was not injured in the crash. He was cited for driving left of center.
Troopers said icy roads were a contributing factor in the crash. Alcohol was not a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
