Tamyus Pearson was born to Mialee Pearson, 18, at about 1:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Weighing in at 4 pounds, 10 ounces, Tamyus did what he had to to claim the coveted designation as first baby of 2013.

“He’s tiny,” Mialee said. “We weren’t expecting him until February.”

Iesha Newell, 24, gave birth to Tremaine Stewart Jr. at about 2:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve, 9 1/2 hours too early to clinch first baby honors. “That’s what I was saying — ‘if he only could’ve waited for just a little bit longer,” Newell joked. “ But it really wasn’t a question — he was ready to be born.”

Tremaine weighed in at 5 pounds, 15 ounces and was a little more than 18 inches long.
