Congratulations to everyone connected to the Firelands Symphony Orchestra! What a wonderful concert on Saturday evening at the Sandusky State Theater! The guest pianist, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, was extremely talented and enjoyable to experience. If my eyes had been closed, I would have sworn there were at least two pianos playing. Not only is the orchestra very pleasant to hear, its versatility keeps the audience attentive. What a superior group of musicians.
Carl Topilov is a perfect fit as the conductor of the orchestra. Not only is he exceptionally musically talented (plays a terrific, colorful clarinet), he also has a great sense of humor and is able to speak to the "not-so-musically-cultured" people (of which I consider myself) as well as those who are musically knowledgeable and gifted. The energy that he brings to each public appearance is amazing.
For those who have not attended a concert, you might want to add this to your list of enjoyable events to do. We are fortunate to have a group of people working so hard to bring us this beautiful gift of music. Thanks to all of you! Thanks, also, for having the ability to produce all of this within your budget! Not easy to do in these economic times!
