SANDUSKY

At least 10 police vehicles responded this morning to an apparent robbery at First National Bank on Venice Road. About a dozen officers, with weapons drawn and police dogs at their side, searched the woods and cornfields behind the bank in pouring rain for a suspect who had fled the scene.

According to witnesses, a white man wearing jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a red bandanna covering his face entered the bank about 9:30 a.m. with a firearm. He fled on foot after the incident.

The search area appeared to run along Venice Road from George Street to Edgewater Avenue, and southward through hundreds of acres of woods and cornfields.

At the nearby Sundown Motel, a policeman in a black trench coat checked the doors to all the rooms with a motel employee.
