Last-minute shoppers rush to complete gift lists

For some it was a battle against cold weather, while for others it was struggle against skinny wallets.

And for everyone, it was a war against time.

Desperation shoppers were out en masse Monday, descending on the unlikeliest of retailers in hopes of snatching up last-minute deals for loved ones.

Late in the afternoon,  Mark Nicora milled about the Family Dollar store at the Sandusky Plaza.

“I normally do procrastinate, but this is worst I have ever been,” Nicora said.

It was well after noon and he still had about half his shopping left to tackle for his father, stepmother, nephew and girlfriend.

He already purchased his girlfriend something that wasn’t on her list, but he needed to fulfill a few requests she did give him. He planned to visit Birds Unlimited to pick up a bird feeder for his aunt, and he had a great idea for his nephew.
