Thumbs UP to the Old Dutch and its efforts to provide an alternative to the bald eagle nest that blew down in the spring. Besides proving that eagles and humans can get along with a respectful distance between the two, the nest behind the Perkins Avenue tavern was good for business, good for bald eagle fans and put us all on the map in a good way. So let's hope this artificial nesting pole idea works. The eagles will let us know.

Thumbs UP to Sandusky's Civil Service Commission and the open, even-handed way it's seeking public comment on the Kim Nuesse hearing. The commission will decide whether to accept or reject Judge Joseph Cirigliano's recommendation to uphold the firing of the former police chief, but the commission's attitude is a welcome antidote to the secrecy and backbiting that has characterized the whole Nuesse saga so far.
