LETTER: Don't know, don't care

Where were we, the American people, Democrat, Republican, Independent, through the years, when several presidents pushed for NAFTA?

Where were we, the American people, Democrat, Republican, Independent, through the years, when several presidents pushed for NAFTA? A small number of representatives (Marcy Kaptur and Sherrod Brown) warned us of the ramifications. So, we watched our jobs get shipped overseas, ignoring the fact people who are not working are unable to pay taxes for the ways and means of this country and cannot purchase goods and services to make this country and it's economy work. We need each other!

Where were we 100 years ago, when Teddy Roosevelt wanted a good health care system in this country? Since then, several administrations tried to reform health care but the big health care and pharmaceutical lobbies got their way because we didn't pay attention or care. With the false rhetoric that we typically believe, the big guys are getting their way, again. If something isn't done about health care reform, in 10 years the cost of health insurance will double while our wages will not keep up. So, when a manufacturer goes to another country or a small business drops its health insurance or goes out of business, why do we wonder? It's apathy, being gullible, lies and scare tactics!

Where were we when we went into Iraq under false pretences? We haven't paid for 2 wars, we borrowed money from China, and the worst part of it, we lost a lot of brave and innocent people! We never put the wars into the U.S. budget until this year and now we know the financial costs.

There are many things that we, the American people, have missed because of apathy and being gullible! Stop pointing fingers, and being afraid and pay attention to the people's government, like the Founders intended! That's what a democracy is!
