In the close-knit Clyde community, it's not surprising hundreds of parents and residents volunteer with school booster clubs.

Perhaps that is why state auditor Mary Taylor said last week Todd Helms' alleged scheme to rip off $161,725 from six school booster clubs is particularly disturbing.

"That's especially egregious to me, that he sought money from booster clubs," Taylor said.
