It is hard to believe that it is fair time already.

I have had the privilege to again judge some 4-H projects for Huron and Erie County. Every time I have done this, and this year was no exception, I am so proud of all of you young people and your parents.

Sometimes kids get a bad rap but you who enter fair projects deserve so much praise. You work for many months to get your books and projects completed. Then you are scheduled to have them judged. You dress up in your finest outfit and wait patiently in the judging area for your name to be called. All of your efforts culminate in a 10-minute interview. You answer all the judges' questions and explain how you completed your project. You say, "Thank you" and "I am glad to meet you."

Then the hard part begins for me. How do you award first and second places, etc. when all of them are so beautiful? But I do my best to be the fairest I can. When I go home, I feel like I have just been with the best students in the county and it is my honor to serve you.
