I was disappointed that the Register did not report the death of Vice Admiral James Calvert, retired, of the U.S. Navy. He died June 3 at the age of 88.

Jim attended the Berlin Heights schools from childhood, graduating with the class of 1937. He was a World War II hero, and served as Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy from 1968-72. He commanded the nuclear-powered submarine USS Skate and with it was the first to surface from under the polar ice cap.

The eastern newspapers and the Internet provided extensive coverage of his death.

Those of us who knew Jim are proud that he got his primary education from Berlin Heights system.
