Kelleys Island was featured this morning on NBC's "Today" show for taking a top spot among the country's healthiest beach getaways.
HealthMagazine named Kelleys Island No. 9 in its list of healthy vacation getaways, after places such as Tybee Island, Ga., Coronado, Calif., Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Wailea, Hawaii.
According to the magazine, a panel of health and travel experts chose the locations based on air and water quality, the abundance of parks and the cost of a hotel room, among other things.
Kelleys Island made the list for its seclusion, bike-ability, wooded hiking trails and healthy eating options. The panel especially liked Kelleys Island Wine Co. for its alfresco dining, which is infused with home-grown herbs.
They also noted the beach at the state park is cleaned daily and has a play area for pets.
Lake Erie Shores & Islands and the Kelleys Island Chamber of Commerce commissioned local videographer Tom Whaley to send a video to "Today" for the story.
