OAK HARBOR

The Ottawa County Fair's opening day was mild and sunny as children slurped green and blue snow cones and teenagers scrubbed clean their equine or bovine 4-H projects.

To help families afford to come to the fair in a tough economic climate, the fair board decided not to raise admission prices. The gate fee is $5, as are all of the grandstand events except the rodeo, which is $10. Ride passes are $10 today from 3 p.m. until close, and $10 from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Ride passes are $12 from 6-11 p.m. and $15 for all day from Wednesday through Sunday.
