Changes at Ohio Jeep plant forces out workers

Dozens of workers are going to lose their jobs when Chrysler makes changes in a northwest Ohio plant where Jeep Wranglers are built.

The (Toledo) Blade reports that Chrysler is taking over control of its paint shop in the Toledo plant after using an onsite supplier.

Of the paint shop employees, 73 were Jeep workers with 30-plus years whom Chrysler recruited to retire and join the new plant when it opened in 2006. Now that Chrysler will be using its own employees in the shop, those workers are being let go.

Chrysler spokesman Jodi Tinson said the company is better served by taking over the painting facility. And because the workers had already retired, they can't be brought back.

The fact that it's three weeks after the re-coronation of Mr. Obama wouldn't have anything to do with the timing of this announcement would it?

The New World Czar

Wait until the 2014 election, Redfern and his plunderbun goofs will blame the Kasich administration for Chrysler job losses.

Wald

No, it wouldn't.

BabyMomma

I heard they are collecting their pension & a paycheck.....sounds like double dipping....they should be happy they got double pay as long as they did....some people cant get one paycheck let alone 2!

Good 2 B Me

Exactly! Unfortunately, too many Commenters are just wanting to blame people and complain about something.

seriously? is this a communist run paper? no profanity. just stated obvious facts! name calling - none, personal attacks - no more than is the the article above, guilt - none, insensitivity - define! - every statement can be declared insensitive, picking fights - obvious facts.

Sarah Weber

Misspelling profanity still makes it profanity. Your comment is fine if you can cut out the cursing. I agree, you didn't cross the line on personal attacks. Thanks!

mikel

i guess i don't consider the technical term for a female dog as profanity. what we see and hear in print and on tv in considerably worse!

JACKEL

Not when you can now say vagina !

Mr. Obama could always continue to blame the "previous administration" for the recession comin' in 2013.

Oops! That would be HIM. :)

To manufacture product to sell to to China. All of the Auto makers do it.

Yea, but the taxpayers don't own 'em like they do GM and Chrysler.

Good 2 B Me

That comment made no sense.

JACKEL

Can't you hear.Those 843,000 jobs cost us a million a job.

Did you miss the news of the GM and Chrysler U.S. taxpayers bailouts?

JACKEL

Well at least he can quit blaming Geo. W.and now blame his own inheritance !

samiam

How many non-retired workers are losing their jobs? Obama doesn't need your vote any more so he's throwing you under the bus.

Erie County Resident

Gee, what happened to the 1200 new jobs the Dems & UAW hacks were bragging about at the Jeep plant before the election?
This looks like job loss, not job creation!

here in ohio

Chrysler builds junk anyways so who cares!

wiredmama222

Oh, I beg to differ on this one. We have a town and country and it is wonderful. The thing is quiet, rides well and is GREAT on gas. We traded in our ford...which was constantly in the shop.
So I wouldn't say it was junk at all. Well build and economical.

Westend Homeown

i agree my town and country has been the best vehicle i have owned i have not had to have anything done to it except oil changes... great running reliable smooth quiet comfortable assessable vehicle

The Big Dog's back

Sounds like the teabag crowd to me.

Randy_Marsh

No Dog, Thats chrysler. The tea party crowd had nothing to do with them being fired. I remember a conversation about chrysler awhile back, Somthing about them laying off people. Hmmm?

The Big Dog's back

These people were greedy teabaggers. They had a choice to do what they did. They double dipped. Time for some fresh blood in the plant.

Randy_Marsh

So all the boogymen are now tea party people. Thats a laugh. They are workers, Thought you liked workers and workers rights? Oh yeah thats right, You do not care for anyones rights. Karma's a pain Dog, Hopefully it catches up with you someday.

Guess Mr. "I won" Obama doesn't need 'em anymore. Sad but typical of a user.

bfrutie, were these workers UAW retirees, not teabaggers..... Why do ex- union hacks, failed political appointees always use the term teabaggers?

The Big Dog's back

Do you think teabaggers weren't in unions? That's where the hypocrisy comes in. They made their money but voted for new people to take a cut. Most of these teabaggers worked union jobs, but now that they are retired and receiving good union pensions, the heck with the next generation.

KURTje

The Dog is right. Saw this 1rst hand in the 80's. Older workers WANTED younger workers laid off so they could get more OT. Most retired UAW workers vote GOP. Most came from another state too. Ford also moved some plants to get rid of some that had more than 30years. (30& out - many wanted those $$/greed)

donutshopguy

There are Republicans in Marcy Kapur land ? There can't be 100 tea baggers in her district. Do they all work at Jeep?

wiredmama222

The election is OVER in case you guys haven't heard yet! Why are you guys still arguing about it? Why are you still beating a dead horse over the elections and Obama winning? What is wrong with all of you?

ITS OVER guys. I swear I am going to call Matt Westerhold and ask him to put up a politics only site so you guys can argue politics until the dead cows come home. Its ridiculous....lol.

Randy_Marsh

@wiredmamma
The left has complained and blamed everything on GWB for years now,But since Obama won we should not hold anyone accountable? These guys LOST thier jobs and some on here think is a good thing because they retired already but stayed on at the request of the company But now the are "Teabaggers"? Another boogyman like GWB is to these simpletons who think Obama is thier god.

sanduskysteve

The point is simple - they worked - they retired - they are finished working - they should move on, enjoy their retirement (more than most on SS by the way) - and let someone else take the job. If nobody ever retires, there will be no improvement to unemployment. Come on - why do you apply for retirement pensions and such if you are just going to stay working anyway??? It's called greed - and the GOP is the leader of greed!

Randy_Marsh

@Sanduskysteve
Quit supporting presidents who approve of monetarizing the debt to where inflation makes a loaf of bread cost twice as much as when they retired and they might not need to work. They are UAW workers getting 1600-1900 a month retirement, That doesnt pay for anything now days. Tell your god to quit printing money and making it worthless before you tell anyone to quit thier job and lower thier standard of living.

That is the same as many people are living on who are not retired. And if you add about another 1000 a month from SS and you now have a really nice income if you ask me. Better than the average person working full time even. Retirement is meant for people who have decided not to work anymore. Why should they be exempt from that and keep on working while collecting retirement money - that is raising their stand of living isn't it? While keeping someone younger and needed a job from getting one. And since when are republican's pro-union anyway?

Randy_Marsh

@sandusky steve
1st, Im not a republican. 2nd They are workers being thrown away after the left has got their vote and i Love showing how kind and caring the left is when things do not go their way. Take Dog for a good example, A month ago these were his brother in arms, Today, They are his enemys. (BTW a Union worker makes anywhere from 45- 80 grand a year depending on overtime, Now he gets 35 grand. See the difference?)

The Big Dog's back

Repub rand, how do you know how they voted?

Contango

@ sanduskysteve:

Do you know how much they receive annually from their pension?

I've read around $35K. Could you live on that after federal, state and local income taxes were deducted?

Also, try livin' on SS payments alone. It was intended as a suppliment, not a total retirement program.

The govt. still expects you to save for your own retirement. The vast majority have saved $0.00.

The Big Dog's back

Nobody forced them to double dip.

Contango

@ wiredmama222:

Obama "won"? So what?

Did we wake up in the Soviet Union with a tax, borrow and spend dictator on Nov. 7?

Well, the Repubs "won" the House of Reps (again), while adding to their number of state governorships; now at 30.

Plus, 53% of the electorate went for Mr. Obama. Reads pretty split to me.

I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Gotta side with the socialist-lite Repukes.
