You certainly wouldn't know it by walking through the Register's building this week, as thousands upon thousands of advertisements for Black Friday deals are stacked in every conceivable space inside 314 W. Market St.
And they're just waiting to be stuffed into Thursday’s special edition.
“There will be 35 different inserts in the Thanksgiving paper,” said Bill Ney, the Register's circulation director. "You name a store, and there's a good chance we've got their insert."
The Thanksgiving Day edition is always the Register's largest paper of the year.
“It's great to see our advertisers support our work,” managing editor Matt Westerhold said. “We know this special Thanksgiving Day edition will give our readers the best savings for the best holidays possible.”
Newspaper advertisements have long since overtaken yesteryear's always-anticipated holiday catalogues, in which retailers like Sears, JCPenney and Montgomery Ward would boast their seasonal offerings.
But as always, the savings are ever-present.
“The purchase of this paper for our readers is a terrific investment," Register publisher Tim Parkison said. "Our readers gain thousands in savings. And during these tough economic times, everyone is looking for savings."
