Sandusky's Web site advertises the city's greenhouse solar panel.
Oh, how green you are! Green with our tax money being flushed down the drain.
From your own stats on the Web site you can tell there was no thought or wisdom put into the decision of purchasing this panel or it was just a total callous disregard for taxpayer money.
Your panel is generating 121 kilowatt-hours per month of electricity. The panel's cost on the open market is $8,000. At 8 cents per kilowatt hour and an average of 121 kwh per month that will be 69 years to just break even.
As solar panels only have a useful life of 20 years , the electricity produced cost us nearly 28 cents per kilowatt hour.
I don't think the city is flush with cash to pay for this exorbitant energy cost even at the price of being green.
Let's cut our losses now. Admit this is a bad decision and sell these assets to other gullible city officials and concentrate on cutting and not increasing costs.
If you sell our solar panels and windmills you might be able to afford to get the grass cut.
At the very least do not plaster it on the city Web site and have the decency to hide it so the stress level of the city will go down.
