The yacht club development comes down to two questions.

Schwanger’s group wants to save the view while the club wants to actually use the property.

Save it for whom? The Jackson Street benches have fishermen but rarely bench warmers. Schade-Mylander Plaza is empty unless something is happening elsewhere downtown.

Kelleys Island, Put-in-Bay, Vermilion and Leamington, Ontario, have well-developed shorelines that get used and bring in millions of dollars to local economies. If you were trying to save a beach I would be 100 percent with you, but there is a city park next door from which to view the bay. The old saying, “use it or lose it,” applies here, and why is this different than the marina development the city is pushing?
