Obama wins

President Barack Obama has won Ohio again, capturing the swing state after a hard-fought battle with Republican Mitt Romney.
Associated Press
Nov 6, 2012

Obama, who also won Ohio in 2008, claims the swing state's 18 electoral votes.

Both sides poured major time and resources into the battleground state that has been among the nation's most contested in recent presidential elections. It was considered pivotal for both.

No Republican has won the White House without Ohio. The last president elected despite losing Ohio was Democrat John F. Kennedy in 1960.

Ohio has been site of much of the advertising spending by the campaigns and outside supporters. It also was among the most-visited states by the campaigns.

In addition to Ohio, Obama captured battleground states Iowa and Colorado on his way to the 270 electoral votes he needed.

Obama will again be dealing with a divided Congress. Democrats maintained control of the Senate and Republicans likely will again control the House. Among the most pressing matters is the so-called fiscal cliff of tax hikes and spending cuts scheduled to hit in January. Economists have warned that if they aren't averted, the nation could face another recession.

@ meowmix HERE's the deal-- Democrats are going to have to do some major restructuring if they think they will keep the public misled for much longer (The fact that Obama, the first black president, almost lost re-election should be your first clue). The hypocrisy of your demagoguery has gone far enough, and we are just not stupid enough to keep falling for it.

() Stop treating women (and parading them around and making a spectacle of them) as if they were inferior creatures who are helpless in life without a Democrat to tell them that it is OK to fail at life because they can always just kill the "clump of cells" inside of them for any reason whatsoever. Stop pretending that Roe V. Wade wasn't over-reaching. Abortion should ONLY be allowed in cases of rape (which will, eventually, be weeded out of society), or for the PHYSICAL well-being of the mother.
In short, stop the cycle of socio-economic failure instead of enabling it. And stop insulting women by making a spectacle of them while projecting false paradigms onto them.

() Stop PRETENDING to seek equal financial benefits for homosexual couples while simultaneously insisting that their benefits depend on whether they are labeled "married." We see, clearly, that if you really wanted to give them the same financial benefits as heterosexual couples..the idea would have dawned on you, long ago, to push legislation to remove the term "marriage" from legal and contractual documents and proceedings and replace it with "domestic partnership" for all couples, heteros included (which is as simple as using the "find and replace" function in a word processor).
Individuals can call themselves "married" all they want. No need for our Gov't to get involved. Simple as that.

() Stop trying to violate the first amendment with your extremist views which claim that saying a prayer in school or a public office is somehow establishing a state religion. Stop trying to convince people that allowing someone to say "I would ask you to join me in prayer" is somehow the same as saying "You are hereby ordered to pray to my God."
Censorship is un-American, period. You can also tell that to ANY President who thinks that "too much media is hurting our Democracy," as he seats a Cyber-Security Czar who wants to ban "conspiracy theories" from the internet..and asribes, to himself, power over all forms of communication in the event of a crisis. *Cough*Obama*Cough*AllOfTheAbove

() Stop pretending that your party never started a war against it's own country (the Civil War) in order to stop the Repubs from legislating women and minorities into economic freedom (the ability to stand on their own two feet and have a voice).
You see, Women and Minorities, Homosexuals and Atheists--are all, combined, a much larger group than you Cloward-Piven strategist (economy-collapsing) Democrat leaders and they are not likely to look upon you with kindness if the result of your policies (which seem like an economic coup, which you seem to have resorted to because your Civil War failed)..ends up forcing us back to the 1800s (a time when the Democrat leaders were much more pleased with things, women and minorities being suppressed, etc)..this time, due to economic collapse and the "solutions" to the hiatus that would ensue.
() Time to move into the 21st century and quit fantasizing about a return to your Pre-Civil War "glory days."

() Oh, and start distancing yourself from the extremist section of the Muslim community. Their "Death to Capitalism and the Zionists" thing (which you have in common with them) is reeeally about to bring you down.

VOTE RAND PAUL 2016 (or installed as President sooner, by the military, in the event of collapse).

Roe v Wade was a specific state issue that was accepted by SUPCO because it had ramifications for all citizens in all states. Congress really can't legislate individual issues... which is why, if challenged, DOMA will not stand.

The one good thing to come out of this election and Obama winning is you can no longer blame anyone else for the mess, As the fiscal cliff comes and the debt limit is raised along with unemployment numbers I seriously doubt another democrat will win anything for some time to come afterwards. You only have yourselves to blame now.

Randy_Marsh

Wald
Been 4 years, Get a clue. We are not any better we are in deeper. How long will it take to clean up Obama's mess?

OSUBuckeye59

@RAndy_Marsh,

The fiscal cliff is courtesy of both majority parties...the Budget Control Act of 2011 is set to kick in: the end of last year’s temporary payroll tax cuts (resulting in a 2% tax increase for workers), the end of certain tax breaks for businesses, shifts in the alternative minimum tax that would take a larger bite, the end of the tax cuts from 2001-2003, and the beginning of taxes related to the Affordable Care Act. At the same time, the spending cuts the POTUS, House & Senate agreed upon as part of the debt ceiling deal of 2011 will begin to go into effect. According to Barron's, over 1,000 government programs - including the defense budget and Medicare are in line for "deep, automatic cuts."

The GOP wants to cut spending but keep the tax cuts in place while the Democrats want a combination of tax cuts and spending curbs.

Reality is the POTUS, House and Senate are *ALL* accountable for the mess. The across-the-aisle finger pointing needs to stop now. I personally don't want to hear any more whining about "the other party". They're all at fault. They should all be locked in a room with MRE's for food until they reach a compromise: the President, the House and the Senate.

Randy_Marsh

@OSU
Yes it is because of both partys, They couldnt come to a agreement after Obama said, And i quote "Both under our estimates and under the CBO estimates, both the most conservative estimates out there, we drive down the deficit over the first five years of our budget," Obama said. "The deficit is cut in half. And folks aren't disputing that." http://www.politifact.com/truth-...
After a complete lie and the debt limit raised we are now faced with a fiscal cliff. Guess who has not allowed the senate to see a budget? Yeah old harry ried, Guess its someone elses fault huh? The biggest of many lessons some can take from the election is that the Republican Party has become irrelevant to a majority of Americans. The demographics of America have changed, and the things that the GOP stands for don't resonate with a majority of younger people and women.

Among 18-29-year-olds, Obama won by 34 (34!) points. He carried women by 14 points, and tellingly, single women by a much greater amount. Won more than 70% of Latino vote and more than 90% of the African-American vote. Conservative politicians insist that they aren't anti-minority or anti-women, yet their policies certainly come across that way, when compared with the Democratic platform. Throw in stupid 1950's comments like Romney's self-deportation and binders full of women, add Neanderthal comments from Akin and Mourdock, and you have a party that looks horribly out-of-touch with America circa 2012.

@coasterfan Obama won 50% of the vote. How does that make the other 50% of people irrelevant? I understand that a Left Wing demagogue would like to spin it that way, but..in the real world, how do the other 50% of people become irrelevant?
And OH YEAH, I thought you were digusted by Romney's "47%" comment??? Then, you turn around and imply that 50% of Americans are irrelevant?? Hypocrite!

Your party is full of anti-Capitalist, anti-"Zionist" demagogues who were bent on flooding the airwaves with a smear campaign to make people forget how your party is almost as anti-American as the extremist wing of Islam is (as that topic kept popping up everywhere online in the aftermath of 9/11). And even WITH your flooding of the airwaves, you STILL only got 50% of the vote! Heh.

I keep triggering the spam filter. I wish that the Sandusky Register would fix the problem.

The elections are over and many members of the two party system are still fighting with each other here. Perhaps the two party system or any party for that matter is really the problem of what is really wrong with our government and our country. It is time to get rid of political parties and all candidates running for office should all be independent and fix what is broken. I view political parties as nothing more than factions. These two factions make it be known that "you are either for us or against us" to any candidate considering running for office. The Republican convention is a good example by excluding those candidates who refuse to go along with the wishes of the rich and powerful.

Eisenhower warned about us about the Military Industrial Complex who just love wars and military bases scattered all over the world. Wars that are based on lies like Vietnam and Iraq means lots of profits to those who own or invest in companies that supply the wars.

http://www.militaryindustrialcom...

If you remember your history, you will recall George Washington's Farewell address over 200 years ago warning about factions who care only about themselves and their agendas and not the citizens.

http://tinyurl.com/bqq4p4d "The most important thing we can do as a people is to protect the checks and balances of our country. 1) The Declaration of Independence, 2) The Bill of Rights 3) The Constitution, 4) the rules and regulations of the Three Branches of Government, are the documents that provide us the freedoms, liberties, country and the power to govern ourselves. These documents are protected by the checks and balances. These checks and balances are protected by the citizens of the United States with the use of the “Independent Status”"

http://tinyurl.com/ay43glm
"They [political parties] serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community;"

A small but artful and enterprising minority have taken over this country. The corporations who own the various news media control what information (lies) the citizens get or don't get (truth). Imagine that. The 1% now control the other 99%. Both factions are responsible for this mess.

sanduskysteve

There are several things congress should do immediately - the first one is to vote in term limitations for congress - the second one is that in order to obtain a raise in pay or benefits - there must be a national vote during a general election - which means congress only gets a chance for a raise every 4 years. There is NOTHING unfair about this system, at least not in my opinion. And the third thing they need to vote into law is no more money from any group, corporation, or person other than their pay is allowed while they are in office. This will fix most of what causes problems in congress. And if they won't do it, we need to start the largest national petition ever seen to get these issues on a ballot for a nationwide vote - that will supercede the congress in this. Those three things will fix more problems than any three things congress could do. Anyone want to start circulating a petition?

verdict

@sanduskysteve You voted Democrat. Not only that, but you gave them a 2nd term and, with it, more SCOTUS appointees. None of those things are ever going to happen as long as a Democrat is in charge. Centralized planning and power is their model. SMH.

I've enjoyed reading the shouts of triumph from the Obama supporters and how they were so inclusive of women, Hispanics, blacks, the youth and others as a voting block.

I’ve also been reading hatred from the left about how the Repubs are so out-of-touch because they appeal to old white people and the TEA Party

Well the joke is on them.

The 78 million baby boomers (mostly white) are and have been reaching retirement age to the tune of approx. 300 per hour.

The majority are arriving at retirement flat broke with little-to-no savings.

Since both Soc. Security and Medicare are both pay-go Ponzi schemes, who’s goin’ to be paying for the old white people’s benefits???

If so many individuals mostly old white people will be collecting Progressive “cash and prizes,” where’s the money gonna come from but largely from the group that supported Mr. Obama?

sanduskysteve

I'm not sure what your point is really - even Romney agreed that SS would last at least another 10 to 15 years the way it is. Some of the retirees you can figure are not going to last that long - and there are still young people working and paying into SS. I'm just confused about what you are saying? Do you honestly think that moving SS to the private banks to handle would make it all better???? There is no interest being paid on the SS collected. The private sector is not going to add anything to the pot either. It just doesn't appear that SS will improve to your satisfaction no matter who is handling it. And if there is another financial fiasco - t hen SS would be gone as well. None of the talk about any of this makes a whole lot of sense to me - quite honestly, it appears that the majority of Americans agree with me or Romney would have won. My fear of Romney stemmed from the fact he never had a single bit of fact or numbers or explaination of his plan to make it any better than what we have now - so why change things in mid stream. The only thing he was sure about was that he was going to cut taxes across the board, take away a lot of deductions, and protect the rich. Those typically are not things that the average American was in favor of - as shown by the election results. Maybe the GOP needs to change some of their views and practice the separation of church and state a little better.

verdict

@sanduskysteve First off, opposition to abortion is FAR from exclusive to religous people. My closest friend is an Atheist and he is disgusted by anyone who aborts a child for any reason other than rape, or to avoid physical complications for the mother.

Abortion has NOTHING to do with the Separation of Church and State. Besides, Christianity would tell you that all aborted children "go to heaven."
Are you so desensitized that you cannot fathom why many people look down on abortion regardless of whether or not they currently believe in a God?

sanduskysteve

Abortion should not be something which the government is involved in - period. The republicans are mainly involved in abortion - not everyone - they are way too willing to protect someone before they are born but more than willing to turn against them once they ARE born. This is one big issue with me. I am not for abortion as a form of birth control - but when you attempt to eliminate birth control - you haven't left much else for people to rely on. Can't have it both ways. How about protecting those who have already been born for once?

verdict

I do not see any move to eliminate birth control. Eliminating certain forms of birth control does not eliminate birth control itself.
They are trying to regulate abortion so that we can get back to the way it used to be, when people were more careful and responsible..when they knew that, unless they had a Doctor's excuse, they would have to actually raise a child if they put themselves in the position of chancing a pregnancy.
Crackdowns like that tend to wake people up. And history would agree.

Startin' to sound good to me. Greed is good - especially when someone else is paying the bill.

sanduskysteve

A couple of comments on this one. First - again, I must tell you - SS is not cash and prizes for everyone - quit confusing those. I'm not sure there is a push to actually tax the rich more - I, though, am for taxing the rich equally. You can take all deductions away from everyone if you wish - but also remove all deductions away from the rich as well. Remove all deductions - everyone pays a flat tax rate - no more refunds and no more tax returns - everything will work out great - you will see a very large increase in revenue to the government at that point. But, until you get the republicans to take their head out of the butts of the rich - you will lnever see this happen. Again - HR25 fixes it all.

@ sanduskysteve:

Not a push to tax the rich more?

"I will not ask students or seniors or middle-class families to pay down the entire deficit while people making over $250,000 aren’t asked to pay a dime more in taxes."

- Pres. Obama

How does that read to you? Reads like everyone is gonna get to pay down the deficit to me. How do ya do that? Higher taxes.

The Progressives like progressive marginal income tax rates and using the tax code. for social engineering. HR25 is DOA.

You also have to include state and local taxes.

50% of the electorate decided:

Tax, borrow and print more so we can spend our way to prosperity!!!

The Big Dog's back

I can't wait till you pay more taxes winnie. Woo hoo!

Factitious

Why is it that tax breaks for the working class is derided as "social engineering" while tax breaks for Big Money isn't?

Wealthy Republicans are greedy and selfish. The rest are their dupes.
