FLORENCE TWP.

The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an injury crash involving two people from Vermilion.

Driver Richard MaClean, 47, and passenger Sandy Hayslett, 36, were traveling on Ohio 60 at about 8:58 p.m. Tuesday when their 1990 black Kawasaki Vulcan SE motorcycle collided with a deer crossing the roadway.

MaClean lost control of the motorcycle and slid off the right side of the road into a ditch. Both were ejected from the motorcycle and came to a rest in the ditch.

MaClean suffered incapacitating injuries and was taken by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

Hayslett also suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported by ambulance to Lorain Community Hospital.

Neither person involved was wearing a helmet.

Florence Township Fire Department and the Erie County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
