At 1:24 p.m. the Margaretta Township Fire Department responded to a fire in the Resthaven Wildlife Area off Heywood Road. They found a human body on fire.
Erie County Sheriff’s Capt. Paul Sigsworth said they called in the State Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to help with the homicide investigation.
“A tragedy,” said Erie County Sheriff’s Capt. Paul Sigsworth. “It’s being handled obviously as a homicide investigation.”
Erie County coroner Brian Baxter, who examined the body at the scene, determined it belonged to a white female between ages 15 and 25.
