If you’ve been meaning to donate to Care and Share, put that check in the mail now.
Just one day is left for contributions to Care and Share to be counted toward the Feinstein Foundation’s national matching campaign for food pantries.
Any food contributions must be delivered by today, and checks must be dated and postmarked today as well.
Executive director Dan Ward said the campaign has been a powerful way to boost fundraising in March and April, a time of year when giving usually dips.
During those two months, people have donated $21,984 and 11,631 pounds of food.
“Oh goodness, it’s well ahead of what we would normally see,” Ward said.
Feinstein Foundation values food donations at $1 a pound, meaning Care and Share has raised the equivalent of $33,615.
Ward said he’d like to get as close as possible to $40,000, the maximum amount Feinstein will provide.
“With a little extra push at the end of the campaign, who knows — we might do it,” he said.
Because the $1 million Feinstein will disburse is distributed proportionally among more than 1,000 food pantries, Care and Share will receive a fraction of what it has raised. The minimum is $250.
