One killed in Seneca-Sandusky county line crash

Ohio Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a one-vehicle crash in Seneca County just south of the Sandusky County line.

Kevin Wertz, 20, of Tiffin, was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 south on County Road 58 when he failed to yield for a stop sign at the county line and lost control.

The truck left the roadway, strike a ditch and overturned onto its roof.

Troopers provided no information on the conditions of Wertz and two passengers, Alexander Ratchen, 18, of Tiffin, and Rachel Pennington, 20, of McCutchenville.

Jacob Hohman, 20, of Bascom, who was also in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was taken by medical helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo were he later died.

Troopers said speed, alcohol consumption and lack of seat belt usage are believed to be factors in the crash.
