Thumbs UP to Lindsay Jameson and everyone else who donated extra hair to Locks of Love Tuesday at BGSU Firelands, so the hair may be used to make wigs for children whose medical conditions mean they have lost their own hair. It's one of those simple things that means a lot to someone else -- and thumbs UP as well to Sue Ellen McComas's interpersonal communication class at Firelands, which organized Tuesday's "Cut-A-Thon."

Thumbs UP to Peter Wilken, who got a piece of the Pi. A love of numbers added up to a first place for Peter, an eighth-grader at Briar Middle School in Perkins Township, in the Greater Toledo Council of Teachers of Mathematics' annual contest.

Thumbs UP to Sean McGee, who found his way out of a rut that was taking him nowhere good, and found a chance for a future in song.

Thumbs UP to acting Sandusky Police Chief Charlie Sams and Sgt. John Orzech for competing in, and completing, the 113th Boston Marathon -- with times just under four hours for the 26-mile course, proving they're two guys in it for the long haul.
