GOP's Ryan visits Ohio; first lady also in state

Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan told hundreds of supporters in southwestern Ohio on Monday that they're in "the battleground state of battleground states" and that they must vote for growth over stagnation in three weeks.

Ryan spoke to about 500 supporters at a Cincinnati airport on a chilly, breezy afternoon before serving them barbecue and asking, "Would you like pork?" as reporters elbowed each other to get images of the exchanges.

Ryan's airport rally means that the Republican ticket has been in swing state six of the last eight days, after he and Mitt Romney campaigned in different Ohio cities Saturday.

"Ohioans, you know you have a big say-so. You know you're the battleground state of battleground states," Ryan told the crowd. "That means you have within your control, your ability, to go find those people who voted for Barack Obama in 2008, who just aren't as impressed these days, who heard the hope and the change ... but see this is nothing but a failed agenda of broken promises."

He said "the window of opportunity to fix this mess is beginning to close on us," and urged supporters to vote early so they can focus on getting other people to the polls on Nov. 6.

"Thank you for what you are about to do, because right here in the Buckeye State you can make the difference that can shape this election," he said.

Lisa Woods, of Cincinnati, wore red suede boots and a leather American flag jacket to Ryan's rally. She said she thinks he and Romney will be better for small business-owners like herself.

"I am taxed like crazy," said the 48-year-old married mother of an 8-year-old. "Between gas and groceries, I'm spending $6,000 more since 2008. I'm the first one who's willing to pay my fair share, but I'm also tired of sharing with everyone else who doesn't think there's a work ethic in this country."

Ryan visited Ohio following a stop in Wisconsin and left the state soon after lunch to head for New York.

First lady Michelle Obama also will be in the state Monday as the race for November gets into its final weeks.

President Obama returns to the state Wednesday with an appearance at Ohio University in Athens, while former President Bill Clinton and Bruce Springsteen will campaign Thursday for Obama in Parma.

The Obama campaign also is running a new state TV ad featuring space hero and former Ohio Sen. John Glenn, who did a radio spot for Obama last month.

The way to "clean up this mess" is to not vote for Romney nor anymore Teapublicans. Even with a majority, it takes 60 votes in the senate to pass a bill. That means that some votes must come from the other side of the isle.

Randy_Marsh

Like the 2010-2012 democrats who could pass anything but didnt? Except of course the healthcare bill no one wants to mention because it isnt what they thought it was because they took the word of the house and senate leadership which were both dems? Yeah Don S we have seen the dems at work and liken it to the blind leading the blind.

shucks

That was probably taken out of context.

KnuckleDragger

@Randy, why would Don S care about Obamacare, he is a union dolt whose plan was exempted from the provisions of Obamacare. The bill is full of exemptions (favors) for Obama's chosen few. All the while they keep raising fees and premiums on military retirees in order to help pay for Obamacare. Military retirees are on tap to have premiums and co-pays increased for the second time in less than a year after just seeing a nearly 20% increase on Oct 1. In the end the premiums will likely increase by 50% in less than a year when retirees have only received on 3.6% COLA in the last three years

2010-2012? Randy. You need to take a pill or a beer and cool down. Hope you got some sleep. 2010-2012 Teapublicans rule the House and the 40 Repubs still hold all the filibuster cards in the Senate.

Did I mention the Supreme Court upheld s,s,m voting?

John
My bad 2008-2010 congress who could pass any peice of junk they wanted but couldnt even come up with a budget.
As for the early voting i approve of it. Those who think so far along party lines that they ignore fellow americans makes them "Un-American" Was it a win for the democrats or for the people? If you say party you are just as much part of the problem as those you despise. Think about that, You are no longer a amewrican because you hold party over country and thats pretty sick.

KURTje

"Im Lion Ryan & I approve this message - VOTE."

John Harville

And all those Dems can vote right up to election day thanks to the SUPCO.

Riskkbreaker

The Republicans take no blame? I am pretty certain that you have them confused with the Democrats..a party which likes to pretend that they did not have a HUGE hand in how this country has turned out. The biggest hand of all, in fact.
Do you really expect us to believe that the Republicans caused this mess?

The Democrats gained control of both houses of Congress in 2007 (due to rising anti-war sentiment) and suddenly we take an economic nosedive, but it is the Republican's fault?
Why would they set us on a course for economic collapse? Do the Republicans suddenly hate capitalism and want to end it? They wanted to hand the country over to the Democrats because they suddenly share the Left Wing dream of turning our country into Europe?

Oh, wait..I get it! Let me guess, the Republicans set you up? They used the dark side of the force to foresee the future so they knew, ahead of time, that the Democrats would gain power for awhile..so they cast some sorcery on the economy so that it would start crashing about a year after the Democrats gained control of Congress? Right? Wait...wouldn't that still be risking an end to capitalism, which the Right Wing views as the best economic model for a free society? Why would they do that?

Here is a very detailed debunking for you. http://www.commentarymagazine.co... Bush versus Obama.

shucks

nonsense

John Harville

I'm getting so tired debunking all this "Democrats controlled the Congress 2007-08". To control Congress in 2007-08 Dems would have needed 67 votes in Senate and 292 in the House in order to be 'veto-proof' OR the Republicans would have had 39 instead of 40 Senators. Why would the Republicans 'do it'? GREED. They planned to keep the WH and gain fuller ocntrol of Congress in 2008 by being able to campaign on the burgeoning economy even though they cut taxes, placed huge unfunded NCLB mandates on states/schools, and never once passed a revenue bill to pay for the China loans.

Riskkbreaker

You did not debunk anything. You danced right around everything the article (that I linked) said..not to mention what my comment said in general (although you do seem to think that their plan to gain power was to cause themselves to lose it first ---in such a way that they might have never gained it again--- which makes no sense).

As to your reply, unless you can cite specific filibuster threats that Republicans made in 2007-2008 (and show that they caused the crisis), you have nothing yet.

John Harville

Risky:
"In the 110th Congress of 2007-2008, with Republicans in the minority, there were a record 112 cloture votes." For the unenlightened, a cloture vote ends debate/filibuster.

From US SENATE: Cloture resolutions/cloture (filibuster) invoked:
2011-12 1009/37; 2009-2010 137/63; 2007-2008 139/61; 2005/2006 68/34; 2003-2005 62/12.... you can go check the rest.

Do you really want me to do your research? I'm not going to post each individual cloture/filibuster - although in 07-08 bills were introduced on banking reform, freddie/fannie (yes the Republicans even stifled THEIR reform proposal because of amendments (they stifled debate on the amendments, too). There was a 'fair-pay' bill, a lead-up to VAWA renewal....
Looks like I have a lot... but you'll never acknowledge it, will you?

It's terrible to do that to a pet: 12 hours in a cage on top of their station wagon at highway speeds. The dog got sick so he just stopped in the gas station and hosed the cage, dog, and station wagon. Now he wants to hose us.

In Seamus' memory, Romney now transports Jim Lehrer up there.

Romney by a landslide in November!!!

SUPREME COURT SAYS VOTERS CAN VOTE. In a possibly landmark decision TODAY the US Supreme Court refused to hear Ohio Sec of State Husted's appeal of lower court decision requiring voting be allowed November 3,4,5. Obama landslide November 6!!!

...And an economic landslide ensuing thereafter! High five?

Am I imagining things? It is all in the Cloward-Piven strategy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clo...

Ask yourself, tho..how well you think it will turn out.

just wondering why prezo didn't offer a second bailout? apparently, going green is not the way to go. two companies at an expense of $$800 million+$$ to the taxpayer. that is efficient!

goofus

Wow, Obozo's bot army has permeated these forums. Great rebuttals from the DNC and their bots. We are such a small microcosm but we are in a swing state LMAOROF. A little worried about the election outcome? According to one of the bots, dead people have more time to file their vote early. Why worry the election's in the bag (snicker snicker)

John Harville

Which BOT said "dead people have more time too file their vote early."? Would you be referring to the terminally ill who legally can vote now but may not live to November 6. What a gem are you!

goofus

John BOT Harville, risktaker called you out, quit avoiding that which you cannot lie out of.
