Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. These are the other three "R's" our children are taught in school. My daughter encouraged us to recycle after telling me most everything I threw away was recyclable! In less than one day we created a recycling area in our garage. In just the first week, we went from having eight bags of garbage per week to two! Over one year that will be 300 fewer bags going to the dump! I was amazed! My husband and I agreed that it felt good to help the environment and the future for our children.
The Erie County Solid Waste Management District wants the county commissioners to approve closing down Drop-off Recycling sites throughout our county. There is talk about curbside recycling, but this is not guaranteed. In the meantime, those who recycle will have to drive further to drop off their recyclables. What a great way to encourage residents to recycle!
To those residents that don't recycle: try it for one week and see the difference you can make! It's easy to set up! Go to erie-county-ohio.net/does/recycling/ErieCountyRecycles.htm to find out what to recycle.
To those residents who recycle: Encourage your community to be proactive and fill the drop-off sites. Let the County Commissioners and the Solid Waste District know we want them to remain in our communities!
To the county commissioners: Please read your mission statement before deciding: "To improve the health, safety and welfare of all Erie County citizens, the strength of its economy and the quality of the environment."
To the Erie County Solid Waste Management District: What other options have you looked into? I think this idea is a bunch of garbage!
